Shocking!!!

Just spoke to 2 guys who recently attended a 4 day course at a well known tile training centre in my area (Scotland), anyway, being a tiler, they where eager to pick my brains about certain issues and i was eager to do the same to see what there training was like and from what they have told me so far, im really not impressed!! They dont seem to have any knowlage at all of different types of adhesives, primers where to use them and why??? but what I found was most shocking was there tutor told them when overboarding timber floor for tiling, use 6mm ply (nailed)??? WTF!!!.... no wonder im loosing out on more and more estimates!!:mad2:

On a 4 day course I wouldn't expect anyone to learn very much except the basics. As for the ply..... I still get architects specifying 6mm for their floors.

so just out of interest if you do a four day course what does that mean
your a qualified tiler:yikes:

I learned the basics of tiling in 5 days, however 5 years on continualy improving, im still learning!! ..no Jay offcourse your not but this place is putting people out there in to the trade in my area, i suspect many if not all of these students will fail after 1 or 2 jobs going by what ive heard!

seems like a bit of a set up to me cant understand doing a 4 day course . as they will need more training to become a basic of anything.
waste of money in my books

we have a similar thing happening down here you can do a 2 day course to become accredited as a renderer (walls bagged crap) you should see some of the results (what i mean is some of the walls when finished you could hang a surfboard on and it would look right at home)

tutor at college says 6mm ply screwed at closer intervals after telling us BS is 15mm,anyone put 6mm down and had a fail?

ive seen tiles failing when put on 6 mm ply, but this level of competence could indicate, no primer or wrong adhesive!, ive also seen tiles not failing using 6 mm plywood! still no right!

tiled my kitchen floor around 12yrs ago using 6mm ply,diddint know any better at the time,kitchen got revamped few yrs ago,them council boys werent happy when the tried to lift it it wasnt for moving lol

If they dont know their stuff then they will fail at the first fence, I personally would not worry about them, the work will always come back to the real fixers.
