short notice job

had a call last night saying need your help to tile a 38sm kitchen floor , no probs its local but they need it doing str8 away this weekend , so went down there first thing this morning , met the builder , talked through the job ,said will call the guy im suppose to be working for this weekend to see if i can move him to the next , made the call yep cool no probs , called the builder back ,told him yes all cool see you first thing sat morning , anyway later that day a tiler friend i know called to say hey just got a 22sm kitchen floor to do , great i said ,only to find out its on the same job , its a very big hotel by the way being turned in to flats , again later in the day the builder called to say your price is a little high would you come down , well it was only £ 17.50 per meter anyway , said ok make it £17.00 great he said see your sat :lol: phone rang again my mate saying the builder called him to lower his rate :lol: i told him i was doing it for £17 and im not going lower as i dont need the extra work , after having a good chat with my mate we both keeping to the same rate thats it , cool , later again the builder calls again , do a better price as we have lots and lots more tiling to be done , sorry i said that is a good price thats it , ok he said will call you back :mad2: by now im getting the feeling hes playing us both , so i called my mate told him wot builder said ,both have a laugh about it , so come the end of the day i thought i would pass by the hotel on the way home and guss wot i saw ,a def tilers van out side so you know wot hes doing again :mad2:, any way got home phone rang its the builder again ,yes we still want you to do the job , so i came str8 out with it ,so i gave you the best price after all ,and that i moved my other job for you to fit things in for you , yes said the builder see you sat morning ,
so im sat here now with a cider in my hand thinging all about today ,i know hes only trying to get the best price , value for money , and i know hes going to play me off with my mate again in time ,but hey thats life

Good for you sticking to your guns...but I hope for £17 a meter its a lovely billiard table screed and you're laying carpet tiles:lol: I know prices are different all over, but that does sound really cheap...when can you come and work for me?!

personally i would be very wary of this job..

why has he no tiler last minute to do the job?

after uou gave him a very cheap price and re arranged private work for him he calls you twice to lower your rates?

i would want money upfront for materials and payment immediately on completion he sounds pretty shady
