There four of us hitching over the top of Africa.only foreigners we met in Algeria was the london philharmonic orchestra and they were actually pleased to talk to us!!! Have vivid memories of being ambushed by a bunch of club wielding local nutters in a wood somewhere long way south before desert who were going to do us over for our whiskey.we were only saved by the fire we made using breeze blocks for shelter from wind. They exploded like bomb just as we were being surrounded and they thought they were under attack thank god.saved our skins.
Whoa! Sounds like we could swop a story or two! Haha good old days? Mmmmm not always so sure about that! But then we wouldn't be who we are now would we! Old, worn out, tired, aching limbs, cynical, anal about our job, married to our work and sometimes the wife, haha

I have mentioned before Neale, if I write a book it's title would be "the tools I work with" I have worked with a few over the years, I have also worked with some top fixers, but a lot were "tools" I'll get me coat.

Outstanding sir! Hahaha

Neale I have been asked this question many times about my travels but no one has ever suggested that I writea book about tiling.
I will leave that to the professionals.
the problem with writing a book about travel experiences is that I could not print most of it. I did my thing after the hippies who did the great overland trail in mid to late 60s.
i met loads of them in India many years later and they were alive barely and great sories to tell if you could keep them conscious.
I suppose I was part of a second wave of traveller who was adventurous but actually realised that we needed to work at some point to continue our journey further than the khyber pass and beyond.
but none of us wanted to work either thus the travelling scams of the day which usually involved buying something in one country and selling in another .some times legally and sometimes not but for me never anything to do with drugs.
my life changed from the day I returned to uk in 1985 after 7 solid years on the road , the last 18months living as a tramp outside with no money or job and this was my choice to experience life .
like minded people spent their lives working out a way to work as little as possible and survive . All good fun .
of course all goods things come to an end and I won't detail my demise but I rose again and became a tiler .
What this says about tiling as a profession I am not sure but I am thankful that I managed to teach myself with a little help to make a living out of it.
