Where do you buy your Sigma gear. I'd made my mind up, but if I can find a decent distributor then I may change, ha ha. Have you push or pull models??

Rubi seems to be more readily available. But Sigma have been doing single rail gear for a long time and perhaps would be better to go for because of their experience??

Don't want to make a purchase i'll regret, ha ha.

Well i dont think you will buy from the same place i got mine from but if you are ever in Melbourne, Australia and passing by Beaumonts Tiles ( i think) then do say hi from me.
I get the spare wheels from a guy on Ebay in Ireland.

Jez - Sorry mate but I don't agree with most of your comments.

In all forms of employment there are people not up to the standard and quality that is considered as acceptable and I'am not sure why its the building industry (and here tilers) that the term cowboy has become synonymous.
You may be confident in your own ability, however you will find that if you do offer a service to the high end market you will not be able 'to churn it out'!
As far as cutters are concered I've used Rubi for years and as far as breakages are concerned - i wouldn't blame my tools!.

Timeless John, we seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet although I think you may have taken some of my comments out of context. I totally agree that there are people who aren't up to scratch in their field of work, but what I was trying to get across is that having seen other people's work and mine (not saying i'm perfect at all - I make mistakes, ha!), I can leave customers with some good titling etc. (That's what Im meant when I said churn out high end work, not wack it out, just a good standard).
The reason why I put this thread in was so I could see the professional's opinions on a dry cutter, it's a dilemma. Tilers I know, also, have been using Rubi equipment for years. A good workman never blames his tools (but you wouldn't be any good at tightening a slot-head screw with a Philips, would you??) and there is my point, I want to buy the best cutter available that fits my budget.

In which case, referring back to my earlier post, the Monolit is more versatile for the money than Rubi, very well built and will cut pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Not sure if you're allowed to mention competitors to the sponsors, so admin feel free to remove the name. amoroc.co.uk had quite a few off them, very fast delivery. We use cutters from the technica and standard range as we cut tiles less than 6" so they are perfect for the job.

Second to the sigmas, I can recommend montolit cutters, again very well made, will last for years and go for angles; I do prefer drag action machine on both sigmas and montolits.

I've never used a "pull" machine, why do you prefer to drag than push?

We find there is better visibility of the cutting line, plus as you are pulling toward yourself with one hand you can place your other hand at the far end of the machine to balance the snapping action.

The montolit drag handle is well gucci, somewhat sculptured in looks.

Tell you what i've never been so indecisive about buying something before. Been doing a count and the majority of people prefer the Sigma and Montolit. Going to have a look at both again and buy a machine. Good thread concerning the drag motion as I did look at it and thought it gave a better vision for the cutting line. Anway I will let you guys know what I order and when I use it i'll give an account of what I think too.:yesnod:

Sigma All the way in my opinion, your knees or back will break before your Sigma does!! Although the diagonale for cutting 900mm tiles is a lump to carry about. Also i belive trimline sells most models.

the "which is the best cutter" debate is never ending , but i can tell you that having owned and used extensively all three (sigma , monty and rubi ) sigma and the montolit are the better cutters by far imo , you can get push or pull for both these cutters as well ...

Just come back from a job in wales and have used my Sigma to good effect now and all I can say is 'what a machine!!'. On the first day I chucked a floor tile at it that had metallic bits in and when cut looked like it had glass bits in it so I presume it was some kind of composite (not sure at all - lol) but my poor cutter wouldn't touch it as it was so hard which in turn made me think i'd made a mistake but no it was me expecting too much. Anyway it didn't even sniff at the wall tiles, so simple to use and the build quality is spot-on, the only complaint I have is the rule isn't accurate but no big deal as I prefer to rely on my measure anyway.

Overall I am well inpressed and think that it's sigma all the way now for me and maybe a little Montilit soon!!! Oh and a Dewault wet cutter, van, more tools and a new wife!!! Ha Lol.:lol:

Glad you like it, we stick more accurate rulers on. You can get them from most woodworking sites and have a self adhesive backing.
