stupid question from a chippy

Here is a stupid question for you, when laying a tiles on a floor, travetine, do I need to board out the floor with ply even though the floor is chipboard which is well fixed. I will be using flexible adhesive. If so what thickness is recommended. Thanks Dave

Personally mate i never go directly onto chipboard and i always ply. The thickness i use always depend on how great the step will be to the other meeting flooring. If it's to great i use 9 mm ply, but only if the chipboard is well fixed down. You can tile onto chipboard by using a 2 part flexi adhesive but personally if yur putting down Trevotine i would just ply and use a single part. Just my view m8 , but i'm sure thee will be more coming

alrite dave. shud use no less than 12/15mm ply . seal all edges and back of ply with primer and srew down roughly every 8 inches . if height a problem revert to dita mat by schluter get spec sheet and follow instructions.

Ply should be scewed down at 300mm centres and primed with appropriate acrylic primer. Leave 2mm gap between sheets of ply and around edgea of room for expansion.

use 12mm exterior ply,screw down every 300mm,stagger boards and leave a 2mm gap between boards and 2mm gap at edges use flexi adhesive and flexi grout.Natural stone tiles also need to be treated before and after grouting.Use a 10mm wheel in your dry cutter for a deeper cut.Hope this helps m8.

Thanks for your help, what do you mean by roughing the surface, is that to provide a key and if so what do you use. I only know how to sand.

I was going to use a wet cutter for the tiles can you get away with a hand tile cutter with a 10mm wheel installed

You'll need to use a wet cutter for travertine m8.
