Today got a call from a builder from Nottingham wanted a full landing and stiarcase tiling with quarry tiles so thought yes will go on and have a look went to the address where a full renovation was taking place looked at the job and it was big old job would take around 3 to 4 days to do i think. around 30sq metres in total.

Some one was due to do the tiling in sheffield but let them down.I Wanted to ask if i needed to put any thing other than primer on the surface before laying the tiles currently just boarded out floors thanks in advance.

Since i posted my dipressing thread on work and life have taken on 2 jobs so am over the moon at the minute moral is high.

DAVE if you have a minute could let post a few tips ta me darling

Thank You Dan i thought i will take it break the habit of a life time. Never done a staircase and landing before so wil b interesting to know where to set out from and what if any surface preperation is required before tiling

Check out the Denis Ruabon site Raja, they have a lot of technical info there about quarries - prep, fixing ,cleaning and maintenance etc. You may have to register but the info is good and free.

Hi raj mate....

Seen as this is a timber staircase and landing...it will be noisy to walk on once tiled...
You could use an acoustic matting .. a bit like the one from Duraseal and then use Bal acoustic adhesive on top of this..this will reduce some of the noise from transferring downstairs....just a thought mate.....but apart from that as long as the sub-floor is structurally sound then i would use bal fastflex on this one mate..and also use the stair-nosing profiles from schluter....

Here are some links to some of those products....

Hi Neale was a call this morning from a nottingham number so thought is it a sales call was going to hang up then the chap said got you number from yell.com we are doing a renovation in sheffield and had a tiler doing the landing and stair case who let us down.

Could you go along and look at the job so said yes. went around at bout 2pm looked round was a big house all the job lot was renovated staircase was bigger than my house altogether. For a moment was going to back out then thought y not and faxed the price over to their office in nottingham and he rang straight back said when can you start so told him 3rd march.

U r prob thinking how much did i quote him £1400 plus materials which wil come to around £60 mite b too low or too high dont know til i get stuck in the tiles are 300x 300quarry tiles look simple enough to lay famous last words
