Well apart from being a S**t hole it aint known for much, which is why i moved to hertfordshire which is known for having lots of fields full of goats, sheep and cows which keeps me amused.

Oh it also has bar rouge and stonehouse which are pubs you can go in if ya wanna be bottled for ogling blokes birds.

Oldham was the centre of the hatting industry of England but by the 1800s it became a cotton producing town. At its height it was the largest producer of cotton in the world. At its peak Oldham had 364 mills producing cotton 24 hours a day. Elk mill when built was the largest Cotton producing mill in the world.

The Platt brothers came from Dobcross which is within the borders of Oldham. These went on to become the largest manufactures of textile machinery in the world.

Sadly due to the invention of Nylon ( New York, LONdon ) and other synthetic materials cotton went into decline and there isn't a single cotton mill left even the Elk mill has made way for a retail park.

Yates wine lodges first outlet was located in Oldham

The first fish and chip shop is thought to have been on the Tommyfield market.

Rag puddings originate from Oldham

Winston Churchills political career started in Oldham when he was elected MP in 1900.
