Thanks a lot for the info guys.

Anthony i will give the multi flex a go and see how i get on, i wont use the rapid set yet as i'm still a bit slow.

And just to keep you happy Trevortine i will have a tub of white star with me just in case it goes wrong.

Also if i am doing tile on tile do i have to try and set it out so that the new grout lines are not directly on top of the old ones if they use the same size tiles as the ones already on the wall?

Sorry to ask so many questions but there is so much to take in

The main issue with tiling on tiles is the additional weight your adding to the weight already being adhered to the substrate - it's recommended 22kg per metre for skimmed plaster board. So without removing the 'well fixed' original tiles you won't know if the original substrate was covered with wallpaper, emulsion, paint, unprimed plaster skim or unplastered board! May not cause a problem for a splashback, but 2.4 mts up a bath wall could be deemed irresponsible .

I don't do it on walls under most circumstances. Only last year I went to do a job blind for some one and when I got there the tiles that I was asked to tile over with large porcelain were stuck onto old wallpaper, I let some other 'tiler' do that job

Don't need to score the tiles, use Feb mix blue grit pva, or bostick do a green grit pva. This will give you a key and works a treat. Sorry if this has already been said, I didn't read all the comments.
Make sure the existing tiles are solid tho.
And I would use bal white star.

The adhesive choice should be made on the type of tile to be fixed to this 'well fixed' tiled substrate.
A tubbed adhesive has a maximum tile size of 300x300mm and if it's porcelain you may find a tubbed adhesive will never fully cure without airflow.

Are sure you meant to say PVA or do you mean blue/green grit arcrylic primer?
