tile over tile that is on plasterboard ?

Hi all,

I'm still fairly new to tiling and obviously a bit naive. Can someone explain why it's unacceptable to tile down the walls past where you know the height of the bath will be then fit the bath later and Silicon? I'm guessing it's so the water can't run down the tiles and behind the bath but wont proper siliconing prevent this.

Thanks - Brendan

Hi Brendan, Silicon ,once done is not for ever!Round about 5 years! Depending on manufactures guarantee!. As to putting a bath flush with the wall tiles, the noise from filling the bath , and your arse scrapping the bottom will transfer to your neighbour. Also I personally do not like working over a bath, apart from cutting in,but sometimes it cannot be helped.
