Tiling a kitchen at the moment - which they say they want tiling only 4 tiles up.
Which is fine until you get to the kitchen switch. The probem is the top edge of the switch is higher thean the top efge of the switch by about 2cm! which would leave an ugly void along the top edge of the socket.

Is there any answer to this other than just tell them it needs to be 5 rows of tiles - even it means getting a anothe box of tiles - so that all four edges of the switch can sit on and flush with the tiles?

I can't see any other way myself.

Re: tileing part way around sockets?

I've had a similar problem in a bathroom(half height) where the tiles have ended up halfway along a mirror they wanted to keep, the tiles were thicker than the mirror so couldn't just tile around.
I drew a line around the mirror, removed it then tiled perfectly in between the lines with the end edge of the tiles showing on the edges.then I put back the mirror. It was flush all the way round.
5 tiles is the best soloution if they wont can you not do similar by drawing around the socket, removing the face then build out between the lines with off cuts.
Hope you understand where I'm coming from, its a bit difficult to explain.

5 tiles for me too but i have had similar situations where the client has said that if i were to go 5 tiles, a; it would spoil the look they were after, b: that i would have to pay for the extra tiles ( yeah right:furious3:), c: dropping the sockets would mean aan electrician as i wont touch them ( wanted me to pay for that too)
So in the past if they have insisted that they only go 4 tiles then it was over come with the use of a plastic spacer that was available at one time, dont know where they come from now. i think i picked a load up from site one day many years ago. I also have been able to Silicon the gap and obtain a decent finish.

GEEZ!!!! All they wanted was you to do the job out of the goodness of your heart

Onto the issue at hand as all the other guys have said i've done it all ways and acheived successful results. But don't be tempted to touch or alter power.

Re: tileing part way around sockets?

Saw one in a house I have been at this week...they put tile trim around the top half of the socket and to be honest it looked ropey. I would suggest going up another row or getting them to move the socket down. Tiling up another row will be a far cheaper option.
