time on job

cheers lads thanks . finished job today and customer seemed chuffed he got two days work for his money when i explained i probably under charged him instead of admiting i am just a bit slow
Thinking on your feet is part of being self employed Stu....well played:wink_smile:

well stumac mate ,over estimate the time aspect and if you finish early then they think you are quick............ lol lol lol .................dave...
yes, but they can also assume you rushed the job
if you think the job will take 3 but may overun to 4 days price up for 4 but tell the customer 3, if it takes 3 you've gained a day if it takes 4 you have put that in the price anyway but the customer thinks that they have got an extra days work out of you for nothin and that you have taken your time..they will then go and tell their friends that your good and don't rush. Don't tell them what your day rate is, would they tell you what they earn a month ?

thanks like this answer makes sense to me🙂 the customer i had today was really pleased i put in an extra day and took my time even though i hadent priced for it i will in the future

Stumac....... when a customer asks how long a job will take, if i am not too sure i tell them that i will leave x amount of days in my diary for this job. so if i think a job will take me 3 days but i want to cover my arse, i tell them i will leave 5 days free in my diary, i explain that i think i'm sure i can di it in 3 but just incase something comes up i will leave 5 days booked especially for them so i am not in a possition where i feel i have to rush and this is how i manage to always produce beautifull results!!

I also explain that the price is for the job and if it takes me longer than i quoted for whatever reason the price will NOT go up, but at the sametime if i finnish the job in 2 days the price does NOT come down.

Works for me mate and seems to give a good impression to the customer.

If your really stuck with what to say, just belt him around the head with your trowel........ stuff his mouth with sparky tape and then grate his teeth with your tile file....get his old boy out and Silicon his japs eye! then explain that you would do it a lot faster if he stopped asking you fekin questions.
