Im thinking of doing a short course in plastering and was wondering if you guys think it would be worth it? Its £600 and you attend for 8 consecutive weekends. Do you think you can become any good at it over this amount of time? If nothing else i suppose it would help immesly in my tiling so i wouldn't have to get plasterer's in to sort the walls out n stuff.
Would be good to know your thoughts...........

Dos'nt sound a bad price, equals to 16 days or nearly three weeks, Go for it, more money in your pocket

you should be ok after that amount of time but i don't think you will earn a lot of money from it as plastering is very similar to tiling you need to lay metreage on to earn the bucks but iot will all come in time:thumbsup:

do you know any plasterers locally?

I asked a plasterer on a job if i could come along for a few days to learn as i had no work..ended up being really good-learned loads, dot and dabbing, skimming etc

i did about 2 weeks in total.i can board rooms out now, skim reasonably well when i can get the gear of the hawk...
eneded up getting work from the plasterer so it was well worth it.
If you cant get a shot like i did then i would do a course.

Go for it mate! I did a weeks course then went out with a mate of mine who`s a plasterer and helped him out on a few jobs, learnt loads and you`re technique will improve quite quickly. I`ve done a couple of tiling jobs recently where i`ve done some plastering as well, also ended up plastering someone`s utility room too so it`s another useful string to your bow

I had someone in to do my plastering not so long ago and he is kinda a friend of a friend so this could be a possibility of going out with him and practising. Think i will save me pennies and do it later in the year like you's all say it's always another string to the bow n all!
Cheers for the advice everyone.

plastering / rendering is easy
the hard bit is mastering trowel skills and the only way to do that is with practice

totally agree with pj tiler once you can plaster well then its like wipin your *** you ll never forget it when i served my apprenticeship in tiling i did plastering also i wasnt brilliant at it then but i went on a 4 day course plastering now im pretty good and better than some of the so called pro plasters out there
