If you have an account at Topps you might have to answer a few survey questions, 'as they have a man for trade accounts' now!!!
Mine went something like this

Would you mind answering a few questions for our survey John

No probs, your adhesive is too expensive

hang on, i haven't started yet

Still expensive

Where else do you shop

CTD cheaper adhesive (no Tg)

Any problems with this store

adhesive is too expensive

what could this store do for you

Change to mapei and get cheaper adhesive

he wished he hadn't asked

Only thing I dont like about topps is that they can be a but funny with trade prices if you have been in for a month!

So they have a guy who always deals with the trade? Do they have to leave you at the counter while they go get him if he's not there rather than dealing with you?

don't know about you guys but the staff are useless at topps as well. stick to your independants.

Ahhhh, I'm with you now.

When I worked there it was the store's responsibility to ensure they kept the trade coming into their store. New stores would have extra help and campaigns going but in the main you just physically rung tilers when you saw cards or ads that you hadn't seen before and ask them to come in to get some prices on their next job and see if he liked them and the service.

Was a 50/50 outcome but that's good enough if you do a couple a week.

Sigh..., John I so agree, but you are lucky to have the choice to go somewhere else! We have Topps, and a small B&Q, and Tile Importers who sell Mapei grout but not adhesives! They do sell Ultra though, a blessing for me, I think Doug uses it, too... but oh to have the choice!

I'm going to be out on my own here but i'm going to say it anyway, my local Topps is really good, all the staff are really helpful and know their stuff.Anything they don't know, they go out of their way to find out. I must be one of the fortunate ones to live near this store. I have been in others that aren't so good but Grantham has a rare gem! As for the adhesive prices, I went into my local TG (Lincoln) yesterday and they couldn't match the addy prices, don't know if it's because I hadn't used them before, but there you have it!!!

Never been to a topps, but the only link I had with them, was a customer who had a seven square metre floor and the shop sold them four.... 5kg bags of bal black grout for it. The tiles were 600 x 600.
