travertine floor tiling ufh

hi
Ive been asked to lay travertine floor tiles onto ufh matt, which is being layed on insulating boards over a screeded floor.Do i use a 1part flexible adhesive or a 2 part flexible adhesive.

A single part adhesive is what you need . When working with travertine i reccomend an uncoupling membrane. Belt and braces and all that

Do you have to use a decoupling membrane on a job like that? if so why? Sorry if i sound thick but i thought you just used decoupling membrane when tiling over different surfaces or tiling into a new extension from existing building. Just interested to know.

NO, you dont have to use it. As i said its belt and braces. Adhesive manufacurers will tell you its not needed .
I personally wont use Travertine over UFH without it though.

It is because travertine is a softer stone than some others and it will crack with stress....UFH will create thermal expansion and to help create a long lastng installation i too advise my customers to use an un-coupling membrane..

But it is not a necessity for tiling with travertine and UFH.. i class it as a prevention..

i am doing a wet room the week after next. trav walls and floors. its a stable t and g floor with no deflection.

i had specified ci over the t and g then spf.

the customer has now requested ufh so i have specified 6mm marmox with ufh in slc then spf the floor is 5600mm x 1600mm, with a 5m2 matt at 100w/m2

i had not considered the ci with the ufh untill this thread got me thinking what do you reckon ?

i have done plenty of stone installs over timber with ci and plenty of stone installs with ufh over wedi/marmox but never the two together

Th Ci matt can actually make the heat tranfer more efficent, as the heat travels through the channels in the Ci matt..creating less chance of cold spots..

I use it all the time if the customer is ok and after explaining the benefits of using it..plus the un-coupling works better on top of the UFH and not the other way around.
