it would be both illegal and dangerous for you to tamper with the consumer unit unless you are competent to do so. I assume from the very fact that you have asked the question that you are not. Leave it alone or get an electrician in to deal with it. You would also need to get the electricity supplier involved cos the consumer unit is the safety feature which sits between the incoming supply and your electrical curcuits.
