what do you do when the client has purchesed all the materials? ive lost many quotes ,refuseing to use there addy and grout,i find trying to tell them its not the best addy for the job a nightmare, when they read the tub and it says suiatable for bathrooms exct, the tile shops sell them the stuff and is adement its fine for there job, also alot of the tile shops round my area refuse to refund addy ,grout.
I always make it clear when I go to quote that I'll supply addy and grout, if they're not happy with that it sends alarm bells ringing for me and I decline to quote:thumbsup:

I got chatting to a bloke from Buildfix/Mapei today who had a stall set up in my local B&Q. He pretty much echoed what you lot have said on here. He said the drying time for tubbed stuff is so unpredictable and hinted that it's really only targeted at DIYers.

I got a free T-shirt and a pen too...what a nice man.

Providing its used with the correct tile, a tubbed adhesive can be handy when you're tiling in a flat several floors up.

There are also uses for tubbed when working on mural mosiacs, when you don't want the addy to dry too quickly or your concentration to be distracted with messy mixing.

My rule of thumb- Horses for courses. However the basic rules still stand and succinctly put by mikethetile.

Wingn, I can never have enough tubs!

Same here. When I worked in a squad, it became a bit of a running joke the way all the clean buckets disappeared when I was on the job. Then one day one of the other tilers was to lift a few bags of adhesive I had in my garage. He described it like Aladdin's cave - dozens of pristine fresh buckets stacked neatly along one side.

I don't work fast enough to need a gorilla bucket full of adhesive.

Use adhesive buckets for everything - adhesive, grout, water etc. Last forever if you clean them out every evening.

you guys put me off tubbed gear so I never have any empty tubs to use, so its gorilla tub for me all the way, with my Bal spf.
