is it techincal , site agents, customers that think they know better, other trades, other tilers, just tell the horror story , lets have a laugh

it made me think today after listening to a sales person , telling a customer that he could use palace adhesive for porcelain tile 600x300 on the walls, had to put him right and landed up having a argument

''If you do a good cheap job on this one, we will put loads of work your way''' YEAH RIGHT

I keep on meaning to add that to the thread 'advice to new tilers'

I, like most of you have heard that a million times! I always reply..

"I'll do this one for my normal price and give you a discount on the next, hows that sound to you?

I had a 30-40 mm low point on two end parts of a bath, these were plyed out, roughly 18 inches fron the bath to the two walls. I thought, what the hell do I do here, the bathroom fitter wants the tiles level to the bath.

He said..and I can't get over this, grip fill some odd cuts of tiles on the ply, then build up the proper tile to go there on these tiles with adhesive!

Customers suppying materials, tubbed gear and pva for large tiles because it was cheap.

Laying ply down for you and it's only 6mm and nailed.

Yeah, like getting B&Q tubbed gear because they think we are going to rip them off on material price! I love that one.

Had a client recently who went to Topps and paid 50 notes a bag of powder addy yet I told him I could get it for 22 notes elsewhere!

spaghetti as spacers is a good idea until you try to remove it ,leaving all your grouting until the end of the week isnt the best idea either or getting in a mate to grout up for you while you crack on with the meterage ,tile all the bathrooms and drop back on the kitchens afterwards ,mix your slc up reallly, really runny it will find its own level

years ago turned up at golf club to tile floor , main contractor had sent in a so called pro to level floor with slc , turned up said to my lad go and check the floor , he come back laughing you best look at it , jesus they had laid compressed cardboard on top of floor boards and latex over it, so as soon as you walked on it , it started to look like crazy paving , just went home , still another tiler turned up the next day and tiled it , still it all had to riped out and done again, and yes i got the new job thanks boys wont say the company i think they are still trading

I was in a timber yard recently and heard the word "tiles" mentioned so i moved in closer to hear the conversation between husband and wife and the staff member. they wanted a piece of ply cut so the could tile the fire place surround ....the wife said that 3mm ply would be suffient as the tiles when stuck would stiffen it all up :mad2:
