Oops. computer threw a wobbly. I was trying to say I just hope none of my early PVA jobs come back to haunt me (last one was nearly a year ago so I should be in the clear!).
The tutor on the course I went on over 12m ago was not a believer in primer. The place I went to is now closed I understand and the tutor is no longer tiling due to knee problems (he didn't like knee pads!)
However, having read around this forum I now ONLY use primer and not PVA.
Just use whatever I have. Managed to aquire a few gallons of Mapei S, so use it quite a bit. Ironically, one of the few Mapei products I'd rate. Depending on the substrate, either that or Technik 918 or Biscem Flexibond.
you should always match your primer to your adhesive (same manufacturer) if ever you had a failure of some sort and you got the manufacturer involved ,they would test everything.they all put different additives in there respected products they would know for example if you used a bal primer and a mapei adhesive. you would not have a leg to stand on . could be very costly................................
I'm with tilerjay, always use same primer as adhesive. I use Mapei primer G on cement based ( bagged ie: Mapei Keraquik) But my prefered readymix is Biscem. For that I use flexibond primer. I think I voted other, but 1st choice is Mapei.
