which cutter

Must admit I've never tried a Sigma. But i started out on a Rubi and have never felt the need to look elsewhere.
If you can afford the investment what with just starting out its what id recommend.

i cant really afford it ,but think a good base is essential, and will pay dividends in long run.cheap cutter is probably false economy.

Your best bet would be to try and borrow one and see if you like it before splashing out.

Your cutter is going to be one of the most used pieces of kit you will have, so if you can try out Rubis, and Sigmas then it's a good idea, see which ones you get on with.
I was trained on Rubis, and a TS40 is a fab little cutter for small ceramics. I bought a TS60+ when all the porcelain arrived and it was junk, the rails flexed and therefore didn't cut straight, and the breaking mechanism is very limited,i went onto Montolit 75 and that has never let me down, the gauge is really neat as you can set it and move it out the way for other cuts.
But i've not tried the TX range, so they could be great.
I'd recommend a monto, but the guys here are raving about sigmas, so they are worth a punt.

cheers rookery ill have trouble tryn out cutters as dont know any tilers.although things may change(fingers crossed.) thanks bugs183 youre the first advocate of the monti so far ,i noticed on their site they do push and pull in certain models.although that might be on the minis.the pull seems awkward is it?

where are you located, maybe someone in your area will let you call in and try out a few cuts.

Have a look around EBAY or online for a second hand TR-600. A great alrounder in my opinion. 2nd hand i think you'd grab one for £120.00. They were £240/50ish new.

Having said that if you have a CTD near you then they had loads of excess stock of this cutter due to the TX versions replacing them. I think CTD are selling new TR-600's for £119+VAT.The TR-600 is what i started out on. It's double rail but i think this adds more precision, and the multi point breaker and setup is excellent if you have repetative cuts you want to get knocked out quickly.
I moved on to the TX-700 recently, it's good but i'd much prefer my old TR-600.

Lol. Just called my local CTD. The TR600 is no longer on offer but they are doing a Rubi Novi Pro 600 in its place for £120+VAT. Couldn't tell you what its like but its described as similar to the TX so similar to the TR also.

Here's CTD's Facebook page:

Scroll through the timeline and you'll see it. There is a store in Norwich. Should be anyway that's where there distribution centre is i believe.
