Hi all,

just started up and did a floor recently using topps own make rapidset.

Only problem i found with it was the amount of time it lasts in the bucket, i knew it was going to be quick but around 20-30 mins was all i got. Just wondered if there was any where you got longer to work with.

Cheers,

Nick

You can get single part flexible adhesive which gives you longer, but when you use rapid set make sure you really clean your mixing bucket out every time you mix a new batch.

If you are finding rapid setting adhesives hard to work with....i.e. pot life...then switch to a standard set...........or as mentioned smaller batches.........

To save wastage lay the field tiles first, then do the cuts, mix a new batch and lay all the cuts. Use 2 buckets as said above as Rapid set works on a chemical heat reaction, therefore if you either use the same bucket without cleaning out the next mix will have a head start and go off quicker.

Ardex have just introduced new adhesives with extended bucket time of 1 hr and extremely rapid setting - grout in 1 1/2 hours.

Agree with the above, Mapei last's age's in the bucket and holds the tiles in a very short time.

Normally use Ardex X7 or S20, but had a limestone floor last week and the customer had ordered the addy with the tiles, and it was Mapei Keraquick, which as mentioned earlier lasts ages in the bucket which on that job was perfect.

All of the above.

Also run the water till really cold.

Make sure your mixing buckets are spotless (The first batch always seems to last longer than your second batch:whatchutalkingabout )

Mix small amounts

If doing a conservatory in hot weather.............try and bung a dust sheet over the roof if poss...............keeps you and addy a bit cooler:grin:

It will last longer on lower temperatures.

You will have the adhesive last longer if you will mix it with an electric mixer but make sure it is not too fast or you will introduce air which will render the adhesive weaker; obviously if you need the addy to harden up quicker, mix it by hand.

I did a conservatory about a month ago using Ardex S20, probably the hottest few days of the year so far, it felt like i spent more time mixing addy than laying tiles:grin: .
I'm off out tomorrow to get myself a mixing drill:thumbsup:

Hi all. I used Topps rapid set on a floor to lay 330x330 tiles. The house was roasting on a very hot day and the mix started to go off in 15 minutes. Forevever mixing small amounts. Just had to grin and bear it and think of the final result.

I must agree with all the comments regarding the Mapei, lasts a good half hour or more when mixed,i like this stuff but still like PCI.HARD TOO CHOOSE.

I haven't used mapei but have used loads of others and have found Bal to mix real smooth and last much longer, just a shame it's so expensive :mad2:

Used PCI Nanolight rapid last week was setting in 10 minutes in the bucket, a bit too rapid !!!

Its nice to know that you guys like our adhesives !

Thanks for all the great comments !!

Cliff

dont forget guys you also get more for your money as mapei keraquick conforms to en 12002 category s1 deformable..............dont think many others, including so called single part "flexible" systems do so!

I've stocked in the past,PCI....SONTEX....SOVEREIGN....TILE MASTER....and nothing has came close to the old MAPEI....

I was using keraquick with latex last week, dont need to prime with this, or so i was told. I also took half a dozen tiles up where the plumber forgot to join his wastepipe, you really need a bulldozer to move anything stuck down with this
