Discuss Will you bother to get an NVQ? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

I'll be getting it some time next year, all construction industries are bringing them in by 2010 I think so I think people will start becoming more savvy about asking peoples qualifications, the goverment will probably have a big advertising campaign telling people to avoid unruly tradesman and make people more aware of asking for NVQ's.

I don't see why I should have to pay about £500 for an OSAT though, thats just a complete rip-off and will put alot of good tradesman off getting an NVQ.

Needs an option something like "would consider doing so", if people like me were undecided as we have not been in the trade that long.

why is there not a maybe button

I thought you would know if you're definaely not. And then anybody else is a maybe really 'till they get it.

Plus, a maybe doesn't help anybody lol

if you get a level two in nursing it means you a capable of looking after an unwell person ( not very ill just poorly )

if you have got a level two in tiling

it means you know the differance between a wall and a floor

thats about it

it will be worth doing if the levels of competance needed to pass are upgraded but at the moment its just a goverment numbers game

it need the likes of the tta to get some balls and take conrol of it then it will be a decent qualification

How you doing by the way ! Still doing site work ?

Still doing anything that comes my way. Mainly private but i am quiet at the moment so some site work and thats sub contracting to my dad (I think you know Eric?)
I am hearing more and more about NVQs being needed if i continue with site work and also if i were to apply for other tiling related jobs so i see it as something that wont hurt to have ( well except hurt my wallet)

Ivegots you've hit the nail on the head!!!! I'd like to do one.... did my H&S test but I am excluded because I can't get funding and like you I can't afford 5 grand. It seems that in order to get a cscs card I have to be in the process of doing an NVQ. As there are no public training providers nor the funding for this particular trade I would have to go down the road of doing an OAST.
If the government want us all to have NVQ's then they should damn well make it easier.

Sorry OSAT
