Ivegots you've hit the nail on the head!!!! I'd like to do one.... did my H&S test but I am excluded because I can't get funding and like you I can't afford 5 grand. It seems that in order to get a cscs card I have to be in the process of doing an NVQ. As there are no public training providers nor the funding for this particular trade I would have to go down the road of doing an OAST.
If the government want us all to have NVQ's then they should damn well make it easier.

Sorry OSAT

Sibs,

I got my CSCS card when I did my course at PTS, cost me £62 or something like that. I've not even thought about an NVQ and won't unless legislation is passed that prevents me from continuing as a self employed tiler.

I thought there are many centres around the UK that will CSCS test you?

I have just registered for mine after doing an ICA course. If you want to do site work you have to be qualified to get your cscs card.

Well there you have it!

There are several "grades" of cscs card depending on the level of experience or qualifications you have. If you have niether you can only have a cscs card if you have registered yourself for an nvq qualification.... there are plenty of private training providers but no funding. No local colleges that run the courses. I agree that the content is probably cr*p judging from what has been said on here but as someone quite rightly said it is handy to have. I have passed my health and safety test but I can go no further because it is cost prohibitive. I agree with all the comments made about nvq's but it doesn't solve the problem that I and many others have.
I find the whole situation rather contradictory :mad2:

Captain slow I am under the impression that the cscs test you are talking about is the health and safety test which I have done already and may I just say it was rediculously easy:lol: Anyway correct me if I am wrong on this
