3 phase submain showers Electrical Advice

3 phase submain showers Discussion Thread3 phase submain showers Electrical Advice

Hi, I'm working in a building which has a three phase supply. There is two electric showers, sockets, water heater and lights going in a toilet block/seating area. For this I'm looking to take a 10mm 4core cable to a submain near the toilet block and running everything from here. The run is about 20m. Would this be sufficient for two showers being used in the morning and evening regularly. Should I be...

EICR question, OLD AC RCD- code 3 or no code? Discussion ThreadEICR question, OLD AC RCD- code 3 or no code? Electrical Advice

With regards to Regulation 531.3. 3 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022

Older AC type RCD's are prone to being blinded by dc leakage from other items plugged in to the property. In other words this RCD may fail to operate when other electronic items are plugged in which leak DC in to the mains.
Regulation 531.3. 3 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 states that the appropriate RCD...

My outlet is on two circuits at once... Discussion ThreadMy outlet is on two circuits at once... Electrical Advice

I have an ancient home with knob and tube wiring, and a breaker box from the 70s. It's all a mess, with circuits powering random things on opposite ends of the house. The breaker box has breakers with multiple wires spliced or coming out of the stud and all the neutral studs are overloaded with wires. Yes I would update this if I could afford it but until then I have one...

Improper Grounding Question - Outlet Receptacle Electrical Advice

Improper Grounding Question - Outlet Receptacle Discussion ThreadImproper Grounding Question - Outlet Receptacle Electrical Advice

I'm trying to replace an outlet receptacle in my house. The home was built in 2001 and we have never replaced any receptacles. I realized after undoing the box (power was shut off and tested a low voltage but no issue) that there were two copper grounding wires wrapped around a screw in the back of the metal box behind the outlet receptacle. There was no...

Hi, is it acceptable practice to spur off an existing 20A D P switch to provide an additional single socket adjacent to this very switch? (The D P switch serves an existing 2-gang socket for a washer and a dryer).
Thanks in advance.

Do you think then solar boom is over for existing properties? Discussion ThreadDo you think then solar boom is over for existing properties? Electrical Advice

I think I'm right in guessing that most of the grants have stopped long ago when it comes to adding them to your existing property?

So does that mean the solar boom a decade back has fully stopped these days?

Any grants and things to add them to new properties? Or would you just be buying a house with them already on these...

Ryefield Board Electrical Advice

Ryefield Board Discussion ThreadRyefield Board Electrical Advice

Hello all.
I have been asked to fit a Ryefield board and switch-fuse on an existing 3 phase supply so that a shop can have its own meter and 3 additional meters are going to be installed for future flats above the shop.
All of these are currently on 60a switch fuses.
Have spoken to UKPN and they are only down to upgrade the existing fuses to 100amp, the connection of the Ryefield and meters is to be carried out by...

Ancillary to my other post, I wanted to check if something was up to standard in part of the installation I'm doing.

We have a metal back box in this case. I've got a fly lead going to the face plate, which has the two other CPC cables going to it also. I've not been happy with how sturdy the connection is if I use 3 solid core...

Can a dodgy electric supply cause a TV fault? Electrical Advice

Can a dodgy electric supply cause a TV fault? Discussion ThreadCan a dodgy electric supply cause a TV fault? Electrical Advice

Hi, turned on (LG) TV this morning and got a 'Select Item' screen and the volume graphic flashing constantly. The remote works and you can select menu items but it returns to the 'Select Item' menu shortly after.
I looked online and some suggested faulty power or HDMI cables, so I detached everything except the power cable. Same fault.
We have a smaller LG TV...
