Replacing storage/24hr heating/off peak water consumer units Electrical Advice

Replacing storage/24hr heating/off peak water consumer units Discussion ThreadReplacing storage/24hr heating/off peak water consumer units Electrical Advice

What are your go to “heating” consumer units to fit these days? Have a domestic consumer unit and a combined storage/24hr heating/off peak water consumer unit to swap. Normally use Fusebox spd/rcbo for domestic swaps the last while but what are options for the other? I know Hager do/did a 3 main switch board and can see Fusebox...

Can you also fix this thing that's started lately where you click on a thread with unread posts and it scrolls right to the very bottom. Then you have to scroll right up to find the last post(s) that you haven't read yet. Very annoying. Cheers.

Insulation Resistance Electrical Advice

Insulation Resistance Discussion ThreadInsulation Resistance Electrical Advice

As an adult learner I understand that any equipment connected to a circuit that may be damaged by the IR test voltage should be disconnected. I watched an electrician carry out an EICR on a property I rent. On a ring final circuit he removed the plugs fom the sockets before carrying out the tests. If the socket is switched off why does he need to remove it? Thanks in advance.

Just asking more for my own curiosity if that's okay. When running say cable when both wires are the same colour sleeve, say dual blue or brown, and there is no power in the circuit yet, how do electricians know which wire is which at each end?!
Thanks and apologies for the possibly annoying question but I'm just curious to know

Hey guys, I started my self funded 2357 NVQ earlier this year while working as a subcontractor for an electrical company. I am however looking at leaving this company due to a number of reasons but don’t want this to hinder me completing my NVQ in case my current employer needs to sign off on anything for it?

I have managed to fill out a good...

Alternative to Envirovent for axial/in-line extract fans Discussion ThreadAlternative to Envirovent for axial/in-line extract fans Electrical Advice

Eh up :)

Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of axial and in-line timer fans, as alternative to Envirovent SIL100T / SILMV 250/100T (or SILMV 160/100T)? Requirements:

  • No manufacturer's requirement for 3A fuse
  • Reasonably quiet
  • Good quality more important than cheap as chips
  • Not too ugly (axial version)...

Granny charge point Electrical Advice

Granny charge point Discussion ThreadGranny charge point Electrical Advice

I'll start by saying I don't install EV chargers and have not kept up to any great extent on regs changes etc but an existing customer has asked for a 13a socket for her EV granny charger in a 2nd home. (the previous outdoor socket has melted!).
After doing a bit of reading including 722 I have come to the conclusion that providing a 13a socket for such dedicated use is pretty much pointless as complying with...

As an old time City & Guilds electrician who last worked as such back in the1960s I realise I’m a bit stone-age to say the very least. C) No one has thought about it yet.

Is this going to have much of an effect on us?
Personally, I don't fit PV or battery installs. I do install the odd EVCP though.
