Why aren't AFDD's a requirement in hotels like they are in HMO's Discussion ThreadWhy aren't AFDD's a requirement in hotels like they are in HMO's Electrical Advice

I understand that the IET say AFDD's 'must be considered' for hotels, however in HMO's, High Risk Residential Buildings, Student accommodation and care homes they are a requirement on sockets not exceeding 32Amps as stated in BS7671 (421.1.7). Why wouldn't hotels be compulsory? Is it just a cost thing or is there a valid...

Good morning all,

Wi fi/ internet upgrade Discussion ThreadWi fi/ internet upgrade Electrical Advice

Need to upgrade the wi fi/internet stuff at my place. I thought that there was a dedicated forum for this kind of stuff, but it seems I'm mistaken, so I'll stick it in the general forum, where I hope it'll be seen (or ridiculed) by some of our more knowledgeable members on the subject.
The pic attached shows what I already have in black, and my ideas for the additions in orange.

The oven is 3.49kw and the combi is 3kw. Oven doesn't have a cable with in and the absolute max that fits in the connection is 2.5mm flex. The combi has a 1.5mm...

Communal areas of flats commercial or residential. Discussion ThreadCommunal areas of flats commercial or residential. Electrical Advice

So a couple years ago I decided to drop my NAPIT cover as I found I was doing more commercial work and the amount of profit I made from notifiable jobs was about the same as the cost of membership so I would be better off not bothering doing those jobs..

I had a job the other day where there was no lighting in communal area of flats, turned out the...
