Ramifications of a worthless EICR Discussion ThreadRamifications of a worthless EICR Electrical Advice

"Currents (sic) feeding essential items shall not be isolated"
No entry's on "limitations agreed with"
No continuity readings at all - Lims in...

My boiler wiring has not gone to plan! Discussion ThreadMy boiler wiring has not gone to plan! Electrical Advice

Evening all..

I've got myself into a bit of a pickle with trying to install a hive thermostat.

The house has a combi boiler.
There are 2 zones.. upstairs and downstairs.

In the wiring centre in the boiler there is one 5 core cable going into it.
L, N, E and the other 2 cores go to the terminal block labelled 'Room stat/timer' (see picture).

In that little 2 way...

Moving CU away from service head. SPD at the fused switch or DCU? Discussion ThreadMoving CU away from service head. SPD at the fused switch or DCU? Electrical Advice

I'm moving my CU away from the service head. About 8m in 25mm2 SWA. Do I need to put an SPD T2 at the 100a fused switch I'm installing or can I get away with just having one at the new CU location? I'm struggling to find options for the service head location. They a lot more expensive and the box is bigger, smaller...

ZS testing - dangerous? Discussion ThreadZS testing - dangerous? Electrical Advice

I have read somewhere that performing a zs test where there is exposed metalwork and people around can be dangerous? Is it something that has to be avoided? Or does it say anywhere that it must not be done? Should i be worried about carrying out Zs tests now? :/

Hi all when performing an r2 test prior to commencing an EFLI test would it be acceptable if the board was made from metal of course to test from the point to the outside of the board rather than to the earth bar? Just for when you are working with large 3phase boards full of cables.

Clear up a bonding debate of ours. Discussion ThreadClear up a bonding debate of ours. Electrical Advice

Hi all
Wondered if you could clear up a debate we are having at work.
Gas inspection has said no bonding to the gas meter or pipe in block of flats.

One engineer says it should be run to the meter.
One says it should be installed outside within 600mm of where it enters the building on the blue arrow.
And one engineer says it should be inside 600mm from where it enters the flat...

Local RCBO protecting ring final alteration. Discussion ThreadLocal RCBO protecting ring final alteration. Electrical Advice

Hi
I completed a job recently where a hotel reception had a new desk fitted. The old desk dado was supplied via an RCD spur from the existing ring. This ring is fed from one of the very old Merlin single phase boards which I’ve been told you cannot retrofit Schneider ic60n RCBO’s in. I had to remove a couple of sockets including the existing Rcd spur from a...
