Aqualisa shower drips Discussion Thread

Aqualisa shower drips Discussion Thread

My aqualisa shower drips when turned off. Reluctant to change the whole cartridge (mechanical Aqualisa Thermostatic Cartridge Grey). I heard that it could be because of worn out washer and one could possibly change, with some difficulty because of restricted access the "O" washer at the back of it. Your comments and advice will greatly be appreciated

Combi Boiler vs System Boiler Discussion Thread

Combi Boiler vs System Boiler Discussion Thread

I think the last discussion was back in 2021.

A few questions to guide any discussion.

Which are the cheapest to heat over the year, system or combi in an average 3/4 bed property?

Which will be the more reliable and cheapest boiler type to repair over the next 10 years?

Is there a better boiler type thats not been covered in the title?

Thanks

Missing pot from trapped gulley (Brand identification request) Discussion Thread

Missing pot from trapped gulley (Brand identification request) Discussion Thread

Hi Guys,

I have a customer who has had building work done and the pot (if that's what it's called) has gone missing. I believe the builders blocked the drain with debris, removed the insert/pot/grill and the clowns didn't put it straight back and it got dumped with all the other waste on site. I told the customer if I can identify the make/type of trap, I could possibly buy a new unit and take the...

Any tips for a non plumber with no pilot light Discussion Thread

Any tips for a non plumber with no pilot light Discussion Thread

Hi,

Ideal classic boiler has no pilot light.

Home emergency cover is an option, so no huge drama but I wondered if there's anything a non plumber could try.

Tried:

Pushing the button to ignite the pilot light,

Turning off and on the boiler fuse in my Junction box and tried the pilot ignition again,

Turning the thermostat on the boiler to zero and tried the pilot ignition again

Thanks in advance

Any tips for a...

F&e tank vent pipe pouring hot water Discussion Thread

Hi all

I have an oil fired heating system open vent with an f&e tank we had some problems with air constantly getting into the radiators and one of them doesn’t work at all, the system is quite dirty and have now noticed everytime we use the boiler the vent on the f&e tank is pouring hot water but only when the boiler runs. Is this a sludge problem or trapped air as the tank is really dirty.

Main 24HE constantly cutting out and firing back up on HW and Heating and intermittent flame failure light. Discussion Thread

I am having a problem with my main 24he boiler where the flame is constantly clicking on and off with the heating and when using hot water. Some times the flame failure light comes on but it ignites again after a few seconds. The plumber has changed a couple of sensors on the boiler and checked the filters are not blocked but it is still doing the same thing...

Grohe Toilet Cistern Abrupt Shutoff Discussion Thread

Grohe Toilet Cistern Abrupt Shutoff Discussion Thread

I have purchased 2 x GROHE Flushing Cistern Solo 0.82 M 38691000

I am pleased with them for the most part and they replace existing Grohe cisterns that were in place for 14 years prior. However, these new ones appear to shut off the water supply very quickly after filling. Whilst the rapid shutoff does not cause our pipes to bang, I wonder if the abrupt shut off may cause issues further down the line. Is there a way to...

Advice on a Drayton EB valve body leaking from the top Discussion Thread

Advice on a Drayton EB valve body leaking from the top Discussion Thread

A routine check revealed a leaking valve body on the en suite bathroom radiator.
I removed the thermostatic head and found the range limiting pins to be severely corroded.
Now, I’m resigned to draining the heating system and replacing the faulty valve body.

My question: In the interim, is there any point in fitting a decorator’s valve cap in place of the thermostatic head?

I’m thinking that if the cap were...

Plastic hot water connection. Which compound to use?? Discussion Thread

Plastic hot water connection. Which compound to use?? Discussion Thread

Hi, I have a leak on the hot water inlet of my concealed Aqualisa Gainsborough shower.
I have stripped it back and with the hot water feed on I can see the drip appear at the bottom of the plastic screw fitting.

I want to ensure that when I re-tile it, I won't have the same problem in the future and was wondering what to use around the plastic thread to make a well sealed connection, (PTFE, boss white, etc etc)...

Fire valve external oil boiler Discussion Thread

Fire valve external oil boiler Discussion Thread

We have an external grant vortex pro and the fire valve is on the oil supply line 1.4m away from the boiler . Read somewhere should be a distance of minimum 1 metre away .

The sensor end is clipped into clip above the burner correctly . Just wondered if the fire valve should be closer or if that’s ok at 1.4m

Thanks .
