Plumbing Advice

Hi can someone clarify this?

I have recently started a new job as a Facilities Manager, and one of the plumbing contractors said that he noticed an issue while he was working on a cylinder in a flat “the expansion vessel is being fed by the cold-water pipework, which includes a non-return valve between it and the cylinder, and that the non-return valve between the expansion vessel and the cylinder will render the expansion vessel ineffective, as it obstructs the necessary flow for pressure regulation?” I have contacted...

No voltage to zone control motors

I was cleaning up my honey-well V8043 motors on a few of my power heads. They were working fine when I re-installed them. I checked the two wire motor leads on a few of them and was getting 26 VAC (should be 24 VAC).

One had a bad end switch so I swapped it with a good one. When I installed it all five zone controls stopped receiving calls for heat. I checked a few for the 26 VAC but showed zero. I followed the traces back to the transformer. It also showed no voltage (AC or DC). The...

Garage conversion foul routing

Hello,

I am looking at converting the rear portion of my integrated garage into a utility room/toilet and wanted to see what my options were for the venting and foul drainage.

Attached is a sketch of the current foul arrangement (estate agent plan is not that accurate) and my initial proposal for the toilet position and foul drainage.

In the proposal I would be running the toilet waste beneath the kitchen units to the rear of the house and then routing it below ground into the current run...

Can you come checkout the forums in general, and give me some feedback please?

There are a couple of glitches I'm working through but could you guys have a browse around it should be quite low advert wise. See my other thread in Whats New with regards to the advert changes. I think you'll like them.

But I'd like to take this chance to ask any member to please give me feedback whether on the forum, me myself, a forum category issue, anything that you think would help get some posting going on moving forward.

Please give me some feedback, any feedback at all. And...

French electric hot water tank, in its final days

2025-02 Outlet.png

Helping a friend at a small house in France.

Please advise about this thing on the bottom of the electric hot water tank.

The cold water comes in from the right, and I presume the TOP half is a pressure reducer, for the water to then go upwards into the tank.

I also presume the BOTTOM half is a pressure safety valve, if and when the water in the tank expands.

(I am used to seeing an expansion tank attached at this point in the UK.)

Anyway, yesterday I turned the bottom tap...

Baxi Platinum+ Combi Controls Discussion Thread

Baxi Platinum+ Combi Controls Discussion Thread

Hi,

To cut a very long story short, Baxi are offering me a Platinum+ 40KW Combi as an alternative to a Megaflo Cylinder that has broken down. However, they are not providing labor costs so I will need to have my own plumber undertake the works. This boiler will effectively replace a 14 year old Vailant EcoTec 637 System boiler which runs 21 radiators and a UV Megaflo.

A couple of things I wanted to ask about is what controls are...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025! - From Plumbers Talk (formerly Plumbers Forums)

It sounds like 2025 onwards we will be building houses much quicker than we have been under Conservatives. I'll stay out of the pros and cons of locations and things but the general fact more houses should be built means there will be grants to train people soon.

So watch out for dodgy training companies who have salesman, or are based...

A leak I cannot get to! What to do in this situation!? Discussion Thread

A leak I cannot get to! What to do in this situation!? Discussion Thread

Hi All,
I've discovered a leak somewhere related to the cistern to a toilet upstairs which is hidden behind the tiled wall. I cannot be specific at where this leak is coming from, because the access to it is really restricted. Taking off the wall flush plate, I can get my arm into the area, and can feel that the higher pipe (feed pipe?) seems totally dry, but as I stretch around behind and under the cistern, I...

Connecting to a Cold Water Pipe Discussion Thread

Hi

I have just bought a compression tee from Screwfix and need assistance on how to connect it to the existing cold wate rpipe.

Do I simply isolate the water, remove the current tap and replace the new compression tee?

Do I need a specialist tool to remove the exisiting tee?

Do I need to solder the new compression tee onto the cold water pipe, or will the olive be fine?

Does the compression tee have to be horizontal for...

Toilet Syphon Discussion Thread

Toilet Syphon Discussion Thread

Hi All,
My toilet Syphon stopped flushing I had a look today and it's a Derwent macdee metro. One that you can remove without taking toilet to pieces. The plastic has torn. Tried taping it together for quick fix but not made any difference. Is it a case of just replacing the plastic out do I need a new Syphon part and if so can another make fit onto it or does it need to be same make. Thanks

Washing machine waste hose extension? Discussion Thread

Washing machine waste hose extension? Discussion Thread

Any advice on the best way to extend the hose of a washing machine folks without it being a bodge?
All the hoses I can get hold of have a bigger opening on one end which doesn’t fit on the trap spigot or the barbed connector I have?
Cheers

I'm Angus and looking for a new boiler recommendation please. Discussion Thread

I'd like a new system boiler to replace my old Pottterton 120L which is a 35KW boiler. When it worked it was a good boiler but I noted it cycled on/off most of the time, I assume because it heated things up quickly and then switched off whilst all that heat dissipated around 14 radiators. 8 rooms, 4 bathrooms. (probably half the radiators go off quite quickly when they get to (or are already at) a 1...
