Repairing a dripping tap - what’s next?

Hello folks, I’m trying to fix this slow leaking tap myself and I’m stuck here.

How do I dismantle it further to replace whatever needs replacing to fix the drip?
(The chrome ring round the top will not unscrew by hand.)
Many thanks

Shower Pump on air to water Unvented Cylinder?

Hi,

I'm in my new build 2 years and the shower pump has died.
I have an air to water unit downstairs is in the utility which I've been told is unvented and pressurised. The cold water feed into this cylinder is from the attic tank, not the mains as I turned off the mains stopcock to see if hot water would still flow.
After contacting the manufacturer and giving them the above information, I was told that their pumps are for gravity fed systems only and can't be used for unvented cylinders...

1 pipe system, 2 downstairs rads not heating up properly.

I have had a problem where 2 downstair radiators are not heating up the same as the rest of the radiators around the house, now previously i had an electric boiler which heated all the radiators just fine, but around a few years ago i had a gas one fitted and the radiators in the living and dining room havent been heating up like before. Iv'e had all the rads balanced as well as cleaned the whole system its still the same.

Im not sure what has went wrong, any advice would be appreciated...

Frost protection valve, detect air or water temp?

Hi,

Short version:
Do frost protection valves trigger when the water in the pipe gets to threshold, or when the air temp drops?

Long version:
I'd rather use frost protection + anti-freeze cycle on my mitsubishi ecodan heat pump. The warranty is apparently fine with that combination, and it avoids efficiency-reducing (and wildly expensive) glycol. Will position the frost valves (altecnic) at the coldest place, on the connection between the exterior wall and the compressor unit, so they...

repair 13 year old Vaillant for £700 or buy new one for £3100 inc labour

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 832 boiler is 13 years old, 4 of which since we've been living there, started to play up in last couple of months. An engineer with very good reviews came round and says it will cost 700+VAT for 'replacement expansion vessel, pressure relief valve and diverter valve on Vaillant Ecotec, Full service of boiler and safety check.' Symptoms - it turns on on its own accord, hot water is lukewarm, he says the expansion vessel is full of water, showed me it when he pressed down...

Always lots of air in our CH system

When I turn on our CH there's a lot of noise from one specific part of the system - the pipes on the landing, and one radiator. It sounds like air, and the landing radiator needs bleeding regularly (about once a month), even though it isn't the highest point in the system. The two upright rads in the bathrooms are a good 50cm higher but rarely have more than a quick "pfffft" of air if I open the bleed valves. All the radiators get hot from top to bottom (except when the landing one needs...

How dangerous is air testing pipework

I've air tested pipework for years, typically 4 bar for 30 minutes. I've never had an issue with any pipework that has passed that test, occasionally you get a small leak from the air test typically old cap ends/scratched pipe which shows up easily on the test without having to inspect anything, but once re-tested it is then water tight.

It wasn't until this week when someone joked about it being a pipe bomb that I suddenly thought, actually this could be really really dangerous. I can't...

gravity fed upstairs shower pressure question

We have a gravity fed hot water system in our the house we have just recently moved into. It works fine with the downstairs shower, however we are about to upgrade the upstairs bathroom and are considering installing a shower bath. My concern is that although there is more than sufficient pressure in the hot water taps there, it would be insufficient to supply a shower as the shower head would be only about 40cm beneath the hot water cylinder header tank . Is there a shower mixer and shower...

How to clear hot water air lock?

I recently installed new hot and cold feeds to a new downstairs cloakroom. After refilling the system the hot taps were all dribbling, spluttering and showing signs of an air lock. I attached cold mains to a hot tap and left it running for 15 minutes, while opening up each hot tap. They all started flowing nicely and I had water flowing from the vent pipe into the hot water tank in the loft. Once I disconnected the cold mains feed though, the hot taps all dried up again. What should I try...

Shower leaking into wall downstairs

Hi all.

Shower is leaking into downstairs when water is being aimed at wall .

All sealant has been redone on outside and between shower tray and wall at the bottom on inside , can’t spot any leakages here.

It runs down the wall downstairs beneath shower in lines , when water is sprayed at the wall.

Have a feeling it could be related to the screw holes not being siliconed before screws went into vertical rail, and it is letting water into them , then going down the wall?

Is the fix to...

Automatic air vent leaking

Dear professionals, could someone kindly advise on per below issue, please let me know if more pictures or details needed. I think my Auto Air Vent is now leaking. A little background on the boiler – installed a year ago in Feb, Valiant Heat only boiler Eco Tec plus 424, plus new pump. The leak is only on the right hand side vent, some water descale is visible, but the left hand side one is completely clean. The leak itself is mostly everyday, sometimes quite a lot of water comes out, the...

Leaking hot water heater. Repair or fix?

Hi, I've got a brand new (2nd hand) Bosch Hydropower 16H tankless hot water heater. Since it was installed I have noticed it leaks a lot. I took the cover off and it looks like the bottom part (water section?) is leaking in a couple of places. maybe a seal or diaphragm? Can it be repaired or should I start again? I don't have a warranty as it was second hand, but it was brand new and unused.

Disconnecting/Removing WiFi Receiver Box

Hello
I've an Ideal Logic boiler in my garage, and need to disconnect/remove the receiver box located on the garage wall alongside my boiler in order for my new Halo one to be connected/work.
I can't find a suitable video which shows how to do it. Is it just a case of removing the front of the boiler, following the wires from the box, and then disconnecting/removing the live and neutral wires from the boiler. Thanks

cap off waste

Hello All

My washing machine drains into a 40mm standpipe with ubend which connects with the sink waste after its trap. Hence blocked sink can lead to overflow of the standpipe and flood. Ive done the snake and cleaning but its become more of a problem with new tenants.

So Id like to effectively cap off the standpipe. Then a blockage would just result in the machine waste filling up the sink.

So if I replace the standpipe with a sink unit with the top capped off that would do it.

However...

Digital Hot Water / Heating Timer (NOT a thermostat) which connects with WiFi or ZigBee

I have a Drayton lifestyle unit in the utility room where we schedule the weekly hot water and central heating times.

I would like to replace it with something digital which automatically updates the clock twice a year by connecting to my local wifi or zigbee network.

I don't want t thermostat (we have one, in the hall) - I just want the timer unit.

Does this exist as I can't find it.
