Programmable digital cylinder stat

I bought one of these:
Thermostat.jpg

and I am using it to control the temperature of my hot tub, and it works great. Does anyone know of a device like this that does not use plugs but rather can be wired in? I am looking for something to control my cylinder, that can be programmed down at night with the ability to set the differential. This model works great for the hot tub and you can set the on/off temperature as you like in...

Is that right to add inhibitor in boiler filter?

I had an engineer today added inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean when he did the boiler service after taking off the filter.

But before the engineers all added inhibitor in the radiators, and I searched online that majority information shows the inhibitor should be added in radiator.
So is it ok or right to add inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean?

Thanks for any input!

Boiler Programmer

I have a wall mounted thermostat which is connected to a 26 volt supply from my Glowworm 24ci boiler.
I would like to replace this thermostat with a programmer so i can time when the heating comes on and off.
Currently the heating is turned on/off using the thermostat.
Can the thermostat be replaced with a programmer that works off this 26 volt supply or is a mains supply required.
Any suggestions which programmer i should use.
Thank you

Smart thermostat causing boiler to short cycle or something else?

Hi all,

When I use my hive thermostat in the way I think your supposed to. I.e. set it to a desired temperature then don't touch it. The combi boiler seems to cycle on/off in short succession as can be seen in the attached image of the heating history. Does this indicate what's called short cycling? In a way it makes sense to me that the boiler is doing this if what is happening is:
-temp drops below set point
-thermostat triggers boiler
-room temp is raised beyond set point in short...

Downstairs Bathroom - Sewage smell

Hello,

We have had a bad sewage smell coming from the downstairs toilet for the last few years. We had a new suite put in back in 2019 which didn't resolve the issue. The smell seems to be coming from the sink side of the room. I have removed the sink unit now and can see that the waste pipe just seems to fit in a hole in the ground. The pipe in the ground also seems to be damaged. Is this likely to be the cause of the issue (potential stagnant water not draining properly into the main...

Electric & Electrical | Anyone know of a repair service for Axpert inverters

Anyone know of a repair service for Axpert inverters{/b}

Hello All

I have an Axpert MKS 4 (conversol Re badge) 5.5 Kw inverter that I have had in and running for a little over a year. From the start it played up and I had a couple of f12 dc-dc overcurrent faults that re set and carried on working, with a little fettling of the charge current and other values. It has since then gone into the same fault code but with a fault that stopped the inverter charging from the panels.
I do have a...

Air Admittance Valve to stop the bad smells

Hello all,

We just finished renovating our house and there are some issues with the plumbing: that is, our shower has a terrible smell. During the renovation, we had a last minute change to move the toilet down the hall. Although it is a new renovation, we did clean it to make sure there is nothing lodged in the drains etc. From what I read online and watching youtube videos, it seems that the trap is having air intake issues and a potential solution is an air admittance valve.

In my...

Is Pressure checked at same time of hot water cylinder repair

Hello, hoping someone can advise me. My boiler stopped working - no hot water or central heating. Called out a company who came and assessed the problem as being that the hot water element in the immersion tank needed replacing. (I don't know exactly what it is called as the company has still not provided me with a receipt or an invoice despite requests).

The repair was done and there was hot water and central heating for 24 hours.

I informed the company that there was no hot water...

Problem with flow rate upstairs only

Hi Could I ask for some help with a water flow rate problem.

I have good mains water pressure on the ground floor. There is no tank in the loft but an unvented cylinder in the upstairs airing cupboard. A gas heat only boiler.

Upstairs I have two en suite rooms. One with a shower and one with a bath. Basin sinks in both rooms.

The cold flow rate is very poor in both rooms whether shower/bath/basin taps. Sometimes nothing comes out. The hot is good for about 30 seconds and then it drops to...

Air in towel radiator

Our upstairs towel radiator keeps filling with air at the top. We had a new system boiler, new tank and new pipework fitted in October. The new tank is in the garage which is underneath the house and the new boiler is in the kitchen at ground floor level. We also had underfloor heating installed in our kitchen, the manifold is in the garage under the house. The 3 towel radiators come on when either the hot water is on or the underfloor heating is on, but not when the other radiators are on...

Megaflo air bubble regen frequency.

Hi guys was wondering if anyone can advise on the frequency of having to recharge a megaflo air bubble? I have had mine installed not for 6 months and noticed the turndish was dripping, so I shut the cold feed off, let the pressure off and regened the air bubble. This seems to have sorted the issue but is this normal for 6 months brand new? Ps we use almost all of the hot water daily if this makes any difference. Cheers.

Warm air heating and asbestos

Hi,

I’ve just bought a property and doing asbestos survey and my father reminded me that about 15 years ago we ripped the 1969 warm air electric heating out of our house.

I knew nothing of asbestos but he said not to breathe it in and hold my breath, as I carried chunks of it (I think it was blue) outside.

I’m pretty annoyed because I know he did this to save money and I now find this was actually highly dangerous. Def had it over me for a few hours.

does anyone know if it would have...

Repeated Airlock in Bathroom

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking?

This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since.

It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank seems to be always full of water so no air is getting in there.

The first time it happened, I called a plumber out and he vacuumed out the cold tap until water flowed, I thought that would be the...

Can't get stopcock 100% closed to allow a tap repair

I have a plumber coming tomorrow to change a cartridge on a badly dripping tap on my bathroom mixer unit. There is no separate isolating valve for this tap so I'll have to close the stopcock. I tried closing it today but it won't go absolutely 100% closed and there is still a very slight flow from the tap. Will the cartridge still be able to be changed under those circumstances?
