Hi everyone,
Just wanted to try and get fellow members' feedback/opinions on tanking around bath area ..ie. above and around. My question is really..is it necessary? It is not really an area that should really get that wet, just around the top of the bath where it meets the tiles - guess this...
I hope this is the right section... It's not about a wet room (or even tiling directly...), but hopefully someone here will know the answer.
We're renting a place that gives us free rent in exchange for renovation work. The owner remodelled the bathroom on a structural level before we came in...
Hi All
I want to tank around a shower bath to ensure its a water tight job.
Its around 5M sq and is going onto plasterbord that has had the old tiles removed?
What would you recommend, something thats easy to apply would be good.
Many thanks...
Just been using two different tanking kits.
both on to plastered walls.
first one was Mira 4180 primed as per instructions on to dry Plaster Left to dry overnight . Next day applied two coats Mira multi coat.following day tanking looks fine but if you geta scraper under it you can peel tanking...

Can someone recommend a good tile adhesive compatible with the mapei tanking?
It needs to be applied about 6mm thick so the tiles overhang the shower tray (existing walls not that level).
Does it need to be mapei adhesive? if so which one would you recommend?
Many thanks

Has anybody used this before? if so what are your opinions on it?
As previously posted I had a palace tanking kit peel from the walls 4 weeks after plastering, they sent out another kit peeled again 7 weeks after plastered,,
now over 8 weeks later a mega tanking kit has peeled, it's seriously doing my swede in, any ideas?
I've only ever used painted on kits...
New to tanking and have to refit a bathroom. Strip out with tiles off. Plasterboarded so not sure how it'll go, they either fall off or take the wall with them. If it goes okay I could prime and just retile or I can tank. If walls fall apart I can plasterboard and tank or re-board with tile...
is it important or not to waterproof or tank the walls of a domestic shower would the waterproof adhesive and grout be sufficient only asking as the owner of the house I am working on has tiled the shower area himself without tanking the walls just wondering over the long term what would happen...

Hi i was just wondering if any members kept-fish in any form :hurray: as i'am thinking of taking-up this hobby  please share your set-ups and details
I have to tile a walk in shower using limestone tiles which weigh in at 30+ kg/m3
Could I tile straight on to the concrete blockwork and would the blockwork need priming first?
If I use hardiebacker boards do I need to tank as I understand tanking reduces the weight the wall will take?
Any...
Hi,
I'm a DIYer in the process of fitting a walk in shower into my bathroom. I've not attempted any project as big as this before, so please be gentle with me!

Anyone had this problem?
I've had it where freshly plastered walls, I've scuffed and primed them left it a day, then tanked, left it a day went to tile and the tanking was peeling off in areas, it was Palace tanking
anyone used this tanking kit before.
recommended with on the level birch ply trays.
seems very expensive.
is it any good or can anyone offer an alternative that will be ok over these trays
I got confused on a post recently where Ash (Mr TeaBag) asked some questions over tanking with a spread on gum waterproofing.
I'm in the middle of a wetroom install at the moment so thought I'd share my pictures.
This job was originally prep'd by someone else, consequently very poorly. So...
I'll start by saying that I'm not actually going to do this, I was just wondering if anyone thinks it is a feasible idea. If the bonding coat is primed and then tanked with a liquid membrane, will it then become a suitable substrate to tile to? In my mind, I can't think of a reason for it not to...
