Hi all, any advice much appreciated.....

I'm trying to gauge my speed compared with more experienced tilers - I realise we can't compare prices in this part of the forum, and they would vary anyway in different parts of the country, but I would like to improve on my estimating for future jobs.

I've done a fair bit of tiling on smaller jobs or for myself as I'm a plumber. However I'm currently doing the wall tiling on a full 4 piece bathroom involving 25m2, which is a big job for me! I used gauges to mark out the room and batoned out. I'm happy (and the customer is!) with the quality of the work but I'm trying to gauge how fast - or slow I am!

overview of the job:

Tiles roughly 280x330mm (not got any here).
25m2
cuts round 2 sockets, extractor, cold pipe and electric outlet for electric shower, boxed in bath (but removable panel), and 3 sections of boxed in areas for waste/pipes.
3mm grouting
bottom row of tiles fitted seperatly to allow laminate floor to be layed(not my choice).

How long would people take on this sort of job please?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

dont think you would get much change out of a monday to friday job, doesnt matter how long it takes you, just as long as the end product is mint.

Hi Mark - I reckon it would take you about the same amount of time as it would take me to remove 2 seperate bathroom suites (3 piece) and replace with new. To include making good all areas around bath and fully sealing all items.
What I would consider in your tiling is the wall preparation and adhesive type in relation to tile size.
Have fun.

Thanks Sean and John.

I also forgot to mention all 4 reveals of the window were tiled - the top one being a first for me!

I'm using Bal Green Greenstar adhesive. Mostly onto the original very solid tiles except where the walls have been made good as most of the layout has changed. Using 6mm notched trowel in most areas and thin solid bed in the shower area.

Oh dear ! Switch to cement based adhesive and 8mm trowel IMO.

With sir ramic, dont use green star, if tiles were smaller then you could have used white star but defo go down the cement route. I very rarely used tub gear. Prime existing and use cement m8. Prob a two to three job for me but speed comes with experience. Good luck!

3 days i reckon

thats quick work to do a 25m2 bathromm, with window to tile round, and 3 bits of boxing in to tend with. then allow the adhesives to set properly then at least a good part of a day to grout all the tiles. very good going.

dont think theres any way i could tile a 25m2 bathroom by myself in 2 days. takes me half a day to sort the window out properly and normally half a day to sort all the boxing in out. thats a fair size bathroom. it also depends on how you have priced the job up. by the metre or by the day. specially if you are charging for instance £** a metre which is £***, then it takes you 3 days which is £*** a day, then if some one asks the customer how much you charge they just say "he was £*** a day" which might tend to put some one off using you.
