well im sitting here studying my NVQ and i got a call this eve from the paper it was froma guy called John he is an electrician contractor , hes been lookin for a tiler says he cant find any good ones recently, he has some work that is fairly simple just one wall bath to ceiling and a few tiles round the sink all in topps trade tiles, am i intrested , of course i said yes lol x
im gonna pop round the house on Wednesday to have alook and give him a price. He said if im any good he will pass more work on to me and he has a builder looking for work , would be good if it pans out.

Ok heres my dilema, im gona meet him on my own at the house and we gonna look at the job wiv the customer there, now I will be going on my own, never meet John or the customer before , safety wise what do you think i should do. Being a girl from Essex i can look after my self , but you never know, of course i cant always have a chaperone wiv me lol ,short of leaving the guys details and mobile number and address wiv a friend dont think there is much more i can do?

What do you think .

Statistically speaking, guys are MUCH more likely to be ambushed/mugged, beaten senseless and/or killed than females.

I understand that you want to be careful, it's just common sense, but you need to consider that you're in a profession where you will meet alot of people you've never met before on an almost daily basis.

You will meet oddballs. You will likely go to said oddball's houses. They will behave odd in your presence.

My advice to you, is to use common sense. Develop street smarts if you haven't got them. Grow thick skin on yer nose so to speak.

If you're too creeped out by someone, try to not be alone with them.

If it makes you feel better, wear working shoes you can run well in. Carry sharp tools with you, for deterance.

Keep customer relations at a professional level, by which I mean keep them at an arms length and don't get too personal. If you get unwanted attention, be very clear about that it's unwanted. If that doesn't help, a jack boot kick in the groin will (a slap likely won't).

Anyone got something to add?

If I was you, as others say, tell someone your whereabouts and ask them to phone you maybe 15 mins into the meeting (could pretend its a prospective client, makes you look in demand) and also ring your friend at the end of your meeting.
If like me you have no friends am sure one of us lot can help out.
Go get um and good luck. :ninja:
