Back Buttering

There's a surprising amount of adhesive used when you back butter a tile or put another way, a surprising amount of voids if you don't back butter

I back butter almost every tile I fit whether it's on walls or floors.
A lot of the time I will use a 6mm trowel & comb the wall & the tile making sure your ribs are all going in the same direction.
This gives a really good bond.

I price about 10kg of adhesive per m2, so yes alot of adhesive

2m per bag? Excessive. Tile size is planks, can't recall the exact size, 900x 200 roughly

When a little more bed is required, I will comb the floor and the back of the tile. I've been doing just that today, with the tiger trowel.

I'm not fussed with the tiger trowels, they state you don't need to back butter with them but nothing will beat the bond strength of back buttering or back skimming.

They give really good coverage, try one. I'm not slating back buttering at all.

I've had 2 hanging up in the back of the van since the day they were brought in stock at CTD
Ones been used 2 or 3 times & the others brand new.
