on floors I back butter every tile I use a 10x10 mm trowel which is a doudle handled rubie 500mm because of its size gives a better spread than a 12inch one also back buttering with this size trowel takes approx. 3 seconds using the flat side it also enables me to work faster . on larger areas I use a 600 mm pin level giving a complete solid bed and back butter with a mosaic trowel gives 0 voids
