hi minnie

the shelf will be above the vertical tiles behind but if your going to get your mosaics to look anything you are going to have to compromise somewhere

Well I don't mind doing that. I think that's how I had them originally and then realised I didn't think that was the correct way.

So are you saying to make the shelf bigger so I can accommodate four deep mosaics?

I still have the worry about how to apply the sealant under bottom row of mosaics

Coming in at very late stage, but to make mosaics fit could you fit another tile on top of the one on your shelf to raise the height? This would perhaps save having to alter shelf in any way.

:yikes::yikes:

It took me nearly 10 attempts to cut a triangle last night. Couldn't figure out where I was going wrong, then realised I was cutting off the right-hand side instead of the left

Will take a picture in a minute of how it looks

M

Minnie

how it is with one tile overlapping. Only room for 3 high.

I think I would prefer 3 high as the rest of the border going round the room is 3 high. 4 might look ok though

Not sure where my grout line would end up four tiles high. Don't think it's straight anyway

that looks ok

you will need to space off the bottom to allow a mastic joint which will mean your top row of mosaic being about half too high , you will also need to allow for a grout joint at the top

you will need to raise the level of your shelf before you stick your mosaic

take your time and it will come out right

aaaaaaargh, but if I raise the shelf, I'll have to cut down that triangular tile and that took me ageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees to get right :mad2:

Take my time? I only have 'til Christmas :yikes::lol:

Minnie, put the adhesive on the back of the mosaics and fit them to the wall, you usually use a mosaic trowel but I doubt you have one, clean the excess off with a sponge being careful not to move the tiles. You could raise that shelf quickly and easily, just use some offcuts, you don't have to be as accurate with your cuts to do this, use your tile nibblers to get them to fit, this will save you loads of time with your mosaics as you could get a row of 4 on the vertical then.

Yeah, I'm already putting the adhesive on the tiles themselves as they're only 3 deep and I'm not going to use an 11 inch trowel for that.

But do I want to go 4 deep considering I'm going 3 deep everywhere else, and wouldn't the sealant and grout line on top of 3 deep mosaics fill the space, or not enough?

If you are putting those mosaics on that vertical area and you stick with three you are about 12/15mm off the sink and the gap will look very odd, it will shout at you every time you see it:yikes: the alternative is to tile it with the same tiles and you don't want that do you.

Quite frankly, considering the hassle I'm having with these mosaics, they may end up in the bin altogether :mad2::lol:

I've ended up with a big corner as one tile was too big for gap for inside corner so I wouldn't have been able to put grout in. The tiles are slipping (when I bought the adhesive), I asked for non-slip. However, I didn't get mosaic adhesive as the guy said the tubbed stuff I got would do it.

Then I'm trying to line up grout lines with the mosaics and then find I'm sliding them over. Oh well
