Ok so i'lkl try to keep this thread up dated with new pics as the works progress.

Now this bathroom is going to take around 5/6 weeks to complete, that's not because of the size as it's tiny, in fact the room measures 2mx2m but their is a fair amount of bespoke work going in to it that can only built as the works progress, so not a solid 6 weeks work but slowly progressing until it's finished.

The budget was 10K but by the time the works were agreed it has risen to £14k, i've been on the job a few days and that has already risen by another £600 due to a wireless lighting system. The lighting for this room now stands at over 2K alone! In fact it would have been bigger had I not reeled in the customer, I keep showing him stuff which he loves but on some items you need to spend big and on others you can get great quality but not spend the earth

any way here are some before pics

Yesterday I built a ceiling feature with two recessed bays which will house 3 downlighters in each and side firing LEDs, there will be a further 4 angled downlighters in the lowersection of the ceiling, 1 shining down a large piece of coloured glass in the tiling, 1 shining on a glass radiator and 2 shining on the window which i'm replacing the glass for a two way mirror as the new basin will be in the same place as before and traditionally there is no place for a mirror. The idea is that if I can control the light then the window will still allow daylight but then turn in to a mirror when they need to (I hope this works, for my sake:yikes:)

Sound s like a great idea but could you explain "the replacing the glass for a two way mirror as the new basin will be in the same place as before and traditionally there is no place for a mirror. The idea is that if I can control the light then the window will still allow daylight but then turn in to a mirror when they need to" Ive never heard of that before but have same issue in my bathroom.

thanks

That's because to the best of my knowledge it hasn't been done before??? Well i'm sure somebody must have come up with the same idea but never seen it done myself.

The window is a double glazed timber window, my idea is that the outer pane will be sandblasted but the inner pane with be a two way mirror. Now i'm sure you all know how a 2 way mirror works? If you are on the darker side of the glass you can see through it but if you're on the brighter side, the glass becomes a mirror. (Think Big Brother house).

During the day of course outside will be brighter so you would be able to see out (well you could if the second pane wasn't sandblasted) and light will enter the room. Now if I can ensure that lighting is directed at the glass and artificially always make the bathroom brighter than outside, then the glass should turn into a mirror and they can get ready in the mornings. Switch the light off and once again it becomes a clear pane.

It just so happens my brother owns a double glazing firm and he says there's no reason why the unit can't be made up but he's never seen it done so doesn't know how well it's going to work. So worst case it's cost me a few quid and i'll have to get a plain mirrored unit made up to go in the window, but i'd like to experiment and see if I can still allow natural light in to the room for when they don't need the window to act as a mirror.

UPDATE:

Thanks for the interest guys, this bathroom has been a long time coming as I orginally quoted for it back in october and through delays on both sides I've only just started it.

Unfortunately there isn't much to show you at this point as Thursday was spent wiring and further planning so not much to see and I forgot my camera and today I've been at a funeral so no work.

As the last bit I mentioned was the lighting I'll show you some of the stuff going in

there are 3 of these

4 of these

A bunch of led deck lights ceiling mounted and some LED strip lights under the bath, oh and a couple of interior cabinet lights!

The lighting will be controlled by 5 zones all wireless, from a wireless wall mounted switch and wireless remote. So you can have quite a few different combinations of lighting, or if you want to blind yourself the whole lot on all at once

And this is the control system i'm putting in
