Ok so i'lkl try to keep this thread up dated with new pics as the works progress.

Now this bathroom is going to take around 5/6 weeks to complete, that's not because of the size as it's tiny, in fact the room measures 2mx2m but their is a fair amount of bespoke work going in to it that can only built as the works progress, so not a solid 6 weeks work but slowly progressing until it's finished.

The budget was 10K but by the time the works were agreed it has risen to £14k, i've been on the job a few days and that has already risen by another £600 due to a wireless lighting system. The lighting for this room now stands at over 2K alone! In fact it would have been bigger had I not reeled in the customer, I keep showing him stuff which he loves but on some items you need to spend big and on others you can get great quality but not spend the earth

any way here are some before pics




Yesterday I built a ceiling feature with two recessed bays which will house 3 downlighters in each and side firing LEDs, there will be a further 4 angled downlighters in the lowersection of the ceiling, 1 shining down a large piece of coloured glass in the tiling, 1 shining on a glass radiator and 2 shining on the window which i'm replacing the glass for a two way mirror as the new basin will be in the same place as before and traditionally there is no place for a mirror. The idea is that if I can control the light then the window will still allow daylight but then turn in to a mirror when they need to (I hope this works, for my sake:yikes🙂

I just love new innovative ideas........... gets the artistic juices flowing! Only problem is that I pass these ideas onto my clients who like them too and causes me all sorts of problems measuring, fiddling etc etc.

All looks really exciting to be able to follow from the comfort of my pc chair... 🙂 That remote portable lightswitch, just out of interest, will that remain portable of fitted somewhere? It's just, I must admit, I would lose that I reckon... to be found in all sorts of pockets when I rushed to answer the phone or whatever... :lol:

Just out of curiosty.....this bathroom is in a upper floor and not overlooked isn't it? Because if im reading the post about the window correctly people would be able to see in when it becomes a mirror but the customer will not see out? or am i completely wrong? Btw love the way those led's in the ceiling recess's give off awave effect. looks like it is going to be one tranquil bathroom

There are 2 remotes G. One is installed in a wall much like a normal switch except it has no wires. The second remote is portable so will work from anywhere in the house, but the idea is that you can take the remote in the room with you and say you're having a bath and think sod it i'm gonna have a long soak, you can dim any lights you like.

The remote works in two ways, you can select a set of lights (say the wall lights) and just adjust them, then select ceiling lights and adjust them and so on.... Or you can have it remember settings so you press one button and it will set all lights in the room to that setting, say the ceiling lights dimmed, the wall lights on full, the leds on, cabinets off (all as one setting).... Think of them as mood settings, so another button will have all lights on full, another all lights dimmed... what ever you want.:drool5:

The bathroom is on the ground floor mate, but the unit is double glazed so I will have the outer pane sandblasted and the inner pane will be the 2 way mirror. So from the outside you would never know, it would always look frosted and you won't be able to see in

normally the inner pane would be sandblasted but the outer could be done instead and the sandblasted side would be facing in so it did not attract dirt from outside

Not too much to show on this one. Again a load on hidden services gone in, more wiring, more plumbing...

The basics have all been done and now we have the measurements for furniture to be made up, all custom made to be millimeter perfect without the use of any filler panels. Should take around two weeks for that to get on site.

So i've been back on another job but did pop over to skim a wall and screed the floor

Might be boring photos but i'll put them up anyway

Cables chased in for wall lights and supply for rad, then first coat of multifinish


Second coat


and done



Then on to SLCing the floor, rip up the old cork tiles and clean off as much adhesive as possible


Then prime with Mapei Primer G, now the SLC doesn't say to use PrimerG with it but i've rang Mapei before and they said it's fine to use, so it got a good coat


My SLC weapon of choice is Mapei Fibreplan, I love a drop of it so start troweling on, mixed up slightly on the thicker side of the scale as I didn't want to much run off

Originally I had spec'd a riven solid timber floor but as some design elements of the bathroom have changed I've decided that a crushed marble tile with flecks of venetian glass will look the business. Still not 100% as I'm waiting for a sample but if I can get hold of the floor tiles I think it's a goer. May also decide to go with a white glitter grout but would need to take a veiw on that later. Anyway here's the tile
