Best Tile Adhesive for Walls - 2016 Tile Adhesives Poll

Tilemaster lightweight is my standard wall tiling adhesive - imho there is no better grip on the market, but you need to know it cannot be adjusted after a few minutes - that's what makes it exceptional on walls, but if you don't fix accurately first time that could be a problem. I also find it has excellent coverage, as much as 8 sq m on an 8mm towelling.

For floors I tend to go for basic rsf greys. Trade Tilemaster and trade Weber is excellent value as well as more than adequate for rapid floor tiling.

When I need specialist products, I tend to go straight to Mapei (their S2 Quick is best product and excellent value), BAL for green screed (problem floors) and pourable thick bed (natural stone).

During the year I converted to BAL max fibre reinforced leveller, great product for excellent value, and I find 25 kg bags more useful.

I generally prefer to use the Tilemaster tanking kit, I prefer the rubber based solutions, and Tilemaster kits tape is excellent, includes corners, and is great price.

My standard Silicon is BAL's Micromax. I get it for an excellent price from Tileflair, it's a great product, and easily colour matches most grouts.

The truth is, I will use most adhesives, Norcross is often a "supplied" adhesive, it's great, and the grout is excellent for natural stone colour matching (who else has an alabaster coloured grout?) Topps own make is apparently made by Palace, it's fine to use in most cases, and bearing in mind how Topps load the prices of BAL adhesives, if I use Topps, I use their own brand adhesive and grout. Tried Bostik, very cheap, but needs using very quickly. Weber adhesives are all excellent but their grouts are atrocious (so much foam you need to change your water very 3 sq m).

So that's my last 12 months of tiling materials. My vote goes to Tilemaster. But there are many other excellent products out there. Much will depend on what you can buy, at what price. But for 2017, several manufacturers have hit us with 10% price increases - so my buying habits may change. Tilemaster may not make the grade if they keep increasing their prices.

I use Larsen because I live near pro tiler tools and this is the adhesive they stock and at a hard to beat cost. They do a grey flexible c2ft which is good for most floors and uncoupling matting. For stone I use their white rapid s1 which is great. I rarely tile small tiles so I mainly use powder for walls so I use their white slow set s1. For me that's 3 things that cover most projects.

Out of interest anyone who uses Bal max flex what price do you get it for? I'll try and get Topps to price match it. TT sell the grey for £x and the white for £x.

BritAdhesives cracking products direct from manufacturers. Great people to deal with too.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers have changed this year, I've uaed ultra for years but there does seem to of been a bit of a buzz around them last year, seem to be strong up and comers

Kerakoll H40 No Limits is just lush, double the price of the adhesive I used to use but worth every penny.

Personally love mapei. Used to be a bal man but I feel as if bal grout really getting difficult to use, then there is the price.

Mapei- great price, sets really quick. Tub or powder. Grout dries fast aswell. Ideal for polishing shortly after grouting.

Price, drying time and quality. Mapei is a straight winner for me.

I have seen a lot of guys raving about tile master, unfortunately I have only used it once as no one near me stocks it. So I can't give an honest opinion or feedback on it. :-(
