Bitumen on floor

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Usually large contractors tend to favour concrete bases, vibrated concrete tiled over with solid bed,and expansion pieces at regular intervals.Asphalt is used mainly to tank out ( as damp proof memmbrane) in cellars etc. Concrete is far cheaper to buy than asphalt...so for surfacing floors it is in decline.....Gaz

True. And me and my clients like concrete more, of cause. I think aspahlt is used when objects need to be reused in a short time as the asphalt can be used in a short time - like the a.m. supermarket. The tilers had 2 weeks for 1000 m2 on the asphalt, meanwhile the active part of the market was still busy and emptied the last week. Then the tilers had 1 week to tile the active part (620 m2) and afterwards, after 3 weeks all in all, the market started business again. It was a tough time for my client but evrything went well.

That makes perfect sense...the asphalt is ready to tile on within hours, concrete takes weeks.BAL do make also a green screed compound for concrete not yet set, this seems to be used also on larger contracts .....Gaz
