Also Ajax, i think its 2.75% as you dont have to pay a rental fee like with other systems. And Bryan, i think it pays you the first 100 straight away and the rest after 15 days (from what i remember!) Obviously id prefer cash, cheque or bank transfer but its just another option for the customer seeing as people love to go mad on their credit cards these days!

Ah that would explain the cost. Still wouldn't pay by this method personally but hey oh some will

I do get alot of people asking if I accept cards. I specify in my invoices that I do, but via PAYPAL only and they have to pay the fees involved (3.4%). I can invoice them instantly using the PAYPAL app on my iPhone and get the money there & then.

This card reader thing isnt all too bad though...... reading up on it shows it is totally secure.
I cant imagine a customer who has let you into their home leaving you alone with valuables refusing to trust you type details on your phone. My customers always trust me so I personally wouldnt see it being a problem. Im sure you could email them details with the initial estimates about the new option of paying by card and its security? I will be looking into it a bit further for sure. Even if it secures one job in a year it would be worth it.

At the end of the day, if the potential customer doesnt want to pay by credit card they dont have to, but its definately another option for those without a choice. And i think it will definately bring in more work in the future. More options the merrier i say!!
Thanks for your opinions. il keep you posted!

For the past 3 years, I've been accepting all cards via PayPal. I've been using iZettle now for a short while & I think it's great. It's a pain if its a Visa payment though. It can take up to 15 days to fully clear in your bank account.
I used it with my iPhone 4 & iPad. I've upgraded to the iPhone 5 & just use a black (I'm OCD that way) converter from 30 to 8 pin & it works great. No need to buy the audio jack type. This way I can still use it with my iPad if I want to. Just gives the customer another option. If they don't feel comfortable using it, they can still do it via PayPal or pay by Cash, cheque, BACS or Pingit (depending on total due)
To be honest though, it's only really good for Visa & MasterCard cause not many people use American Express or Diners Card. Anyone wishing to pay by Maestro, Switch or any other card will still have to do it via PayPal. The fees charge is cheaper on iZettle for them as PayPal is 3.4% rather than the 2.75%.

At the end of the day, it's free. No rented terminals, no monthly charge & you can also set it up as a sole trader into a personal Bank Account.

10 out of 10 for me!

IZettle are sending me one in the next week or so. Already accept a lot of cards via PAYPAL so this should make things a lot easier!

Seriously, it's fantastic Blocko. It opens so many doors. Gives customers the chance to pay some or all by credit card which in turn makes them spend more!
I have both the older iPhone version & audio jack type now. £20 credit each time. I was using the adaptor (30 pin to 8 pin) for the iPhone one to the iPhone 5 as well as for my iPad but thought hey, may as well have another £20 credit to my account.
I'm also getting £10 credit each time I recommend so if anyone is interested. PM me you email addy for a direct link

I must be one of the few untrusting people around, a fool and his money comes to mind. I would never leave anyone alone in my house. There are probably 98% good out there and 2% bad. The problem is I don’t know how to tell them apart. I would never use this type of phone device I only use bank atm machines and cover my pin, I make sure I am also aware of who is around me.
I guess I am a little paranoid, but on the other hand I have not been ripped off yet.

In fact this system would put me off the tradesman, I would go elsewhere.

Each to there own. I bet you wouldn't hesitate to give card details over the phone though which if far more unsecure than anything else. A rogue employee taking down your details or someone with a cordless phone scanner near by jotting every digit down. Guess you'll not be using that cordless phone in the house anymore for personal details.
Think you are a little too paranoid. It's not put any of my customers off & have increased my sale dramatically.
If they don't want to use it, they don't have to. Just another option to go with cash, cheque, PayPal, BACS or Pingit.

Lol,
No not the phone, as you say I’m over paranoid and yes you guessed I watch what I say on a phone network, I am always aware of who is walking behind me and where the fire exit is.
There are too many nasty people out there who don’t care.
But back to the subject, if it brings in jobs for you and is cost effective then it’s another tool in the box and might get you the job over the next man.
Merry Christmas and take care.
