hi guys,

can somebody give me some tips on how to cut out a perfect circle out of a marble tile and a porcelain tile for a waste pipe.

we are tiling an ensuite in marble wall tiles 300mm x 300mm and there is a waste pipe that i have to fit a tile over. the pipe is the waste for the toilet. also we have the same scenario in the bathroom but the tiles are porcelain and 600mm x 330mm , i think?

so, how would i cut the hole out of the tiles without splitting the tile in half. :huh2:

hope somebody can help

I use a Montolit cutting set. Fabulous piece of kit but like everything else of quality it costs around £280 for the set. There is also a company on here called 356 Drills I don't know if they have anything that can handle it because I don't know the range.

Follow the link at the top of the page for Porsadrill and look at their stuff. that will sort you out.

Hi Sara..

You can buy a drill bit from 365 drills that will cope with that size hole.....here's a couple of pics....

Or you can mark the holes size and then plunge cut from the back of the tile and make a few cuts and nibble the shape out.....but for about £60 i would go for the 365 hole cutter then you can use it again....

you can order one here.....

Got to agree with previous posts, 365 Drills supply a 120mm core drill for this very purpose, I cut 2 smaller holes (40mm) in granite last week in about 5 mins total. Will go through marble no problem.

are there any other alternatives. ie one where i dont have to spend money hee
we have a small diamond cutter so i was thinking of cutting out a triangle after marking a circle and then cutting lots of small segments on the strips that are left but will nippers snap off small segments of marble and porcelain.

i thought there would be some old expert out there who would give me some of his wisdom and expertise.

As i mentioned Sara.. you can do plunge cuts on your wet cutter and cut the hole out in small bits at a time or maybe even use a grinder and finish off with some nibblers.....

After 10 or 15 mins of nipping away at porcelain, you may wish you had bought the drill.
