Thanks so much you guys. I told him take your tools and that's the end of it, and that I was really annoyed. No arguments, thankfully, and even better, no money handed over. Tiles are all up now most of the softer adhesive lifted easily, still scraping the other half-set stuff up. Bit of a nuisance as all appliances had been disconnected in preparation. Oh well. :mad2:

I'm sorry this client got a cowboy but Them pics were absolutley laughable!! how did he set out so bad.?!!?!
I honestly think if i'd let my 2 year old start off he could have done a better job!
how could that person say with a straight face that he could tile. GOD ONLY KNOWS!
Hope you get it sorted. like the guys have allready said, there are plenty of pro tilers on here that live in the manchester area that would gladly help you out, and leave you with a quality piece of work. whoever you get before you let them touch a tile ask them questions, and come back here and see if they know there stuff. this is proberly one of the most productive forums for good advise; use it and spread the word so we can get rid of these SO CALLED TILERS.

Well done for sorting it out without being left out of pocket. we here it all to often when the tiler runs off with the money and then the customer voices their concerns about the work. Couldn't agree more with the guys above, that is shocking!

I would take advantage of this site, get a recommended tiler in your area and get the floor that you deserve after paying for it.

I hate cowboys!

I don't know what brand of adhesive he used - somebody asked earlier on up the thread, but it's concrete-based by the smell of it. Most of it has come up, but there still a few bits that will be a work in progress until we can get somebody else in. In total, he used almost 7 packs of tiles, a lot of which will be too laborious to scrape free of dried adhesive now. Will probably just buy some replacement packs and give it up as a bad job. Thankfully, we never paid him, so it's been more of an inconvenience than anything else, so I hope the good tilers on here had a chuckle at his handiwork as well as giving me opinions and advice. I wouldn't have attempted this job myself but honestly, I reckon I could have got a straighter line after 10 pints.
Just out of interest, would a tiler, where possible, remove the skirting and tile under door architraves, or is that optional? I'm just wondering what I need to ask for next time.

It's a better finish if you tile 2mm from the wall and the replace the skirting, the facing can be trimmed using a multitool then the tile can fit underCheersPaul

if you don't want to remove the skirtings it should be no problem for a decent tiler to leave a good finish up to the skirting and then caulk to finish. i normally just cut the architrave to go under
