As a general rule of thumb on new build , houses = no power , apartments = power.

McCarthey n Stone have plenty of power genrally .

To highlight, my opening remark, i just spent 6 mths doing 4 apartment blocks for GFRD ( Linden ) power everywhere , went to another of theirs 2 weeks ago - town houses , no power.
Mate had to bring hi genny for us.

If I'm reading you right what you've done is worse than what you suggested, by that I mean that now you have a 240V trailing cable from your genny to your transformer rather than just the short lead of the genny, sounds crazy to me.
