Hot and Cold

using the alternative ice pack / hot water bottle treatment on a twinging knee yesterday, nodded off with the ice pack on, anybody else got frostbite in August ? lol

You just reminded me of a programme on pro sports physio where a popular treatment was athletes submerging up to the waist in a wheelie bin filled with iced water....that hurt just looking at their faces as they went in.

As a tiler and a runner (average a 100km a week) I have a 15 minute ice bath for my legs every night after work. It works really well for my dodgy knees and keeps me fighting fit for the next working day.

I would try that with my wheelie but I'm worried I drown the cat.


What do you use for a bath? ...or do you use the bath?

I went the other way John, I managed to break both ankles in 1990 and fell asleep with the heat lamp on. Got a massive burn blister all the way up my calf:lol:

Ouch!!!!.....I think that's the same problem if you leave ice on too long in that it burns the skin and in more extreme cases the inner tissue.

Fill bath with 6 inches of cold water and add a couple of bags of ice. lucky enough to blag an ice maker from a customer a few years ago. After 15 - 20 mins in bath, then shower. works wonders on my knees after 20 years of tiling and constant running.

Sounds like good advice there, thanks. Even if it's done once a week or so will probably help.
