had to try something mate as i have been going since jan and not had one genuine call yet, i am advertising as best i can, flyers and the net. b, cards and popping into the tile shops with my cards too. even doing little non paying jobs for family to get myself out there and seen to be busy, word of mouth and so on. if i dont get a call in the three months ill tell them i want a refund.

Good for you Jay, keep out there and keep looking mate. I'm in eactly the same boat remember so it aint just you. I just secured a job for next week (floor 22m2) amd that will be the first time i have worked in nearly 6 weeks!!! aint got nothing booked up for after that either.
I have got an advert coming out in a paper on the 2oth, and another coming out next thursday. I also done the yell.com thing and to be honest with you i think it sounds pretty good but only time will tell if it is any good.
I have noticed on here that their are a few tilers on here from Scotland and they all seem to be busy, maybe you should give them a call to see if they can throw a bit your or if they want a labourer or something. I know it's ****ty mate but i pick up Wivers leftovers time and time again as he seems to be getting by fairly comfortably and sometimes it's all thats keeping me floating. At the end of the day a lot of it comes down to luck, i cant do anymore to my name out their but my phone just wont bloody ring lol!!!!!!!

PS, even the floor i just got was from Wivers, they originally wanted a wooden floor which he didn't want to do so passed it to me. But i managed to talk em into having tiles lol

i wish the guys up here were closer, all seem to be glasgow based and that would mean relocating. im considering moving further north to see how that helps. cant be any worse. if this keeps up im just going to sell all my gear and do something else.

Thats's nasty mate. Don't give up on it though, maybe do something else temporarily but don't quit it. Could you just move into Glasgow at the drop of a hat (no kids patrner n stuff) if you can maybe that would make a lot of sense, you might find you start to get a bit busier and all sorts of doors open up for ya.
Either that or you could consider coming down here, you Jocks always seem to do ok down here plus there is probably a load of other options you could do.

not signed on but thinking about it, have a kid and a partner. can just move that way mate, partner stays up north so im thinking for now trying to get onto the oil rigs. or something till all it all calms down again.

Got friends in Aberdeen saying that it is a shame we don't work up there as they know many people who want/need tiling done.
So I would think it is easier to start up in North and Rated People seem to have a few jobs there already posted the beginning of May (not sure if you do skimming/plastering as well):
AB24 - 12 May - bathroom walls skimmed. the room is small. approx 10ft by 5ft
Aberdeen - 06 May - Kitchen splashback area
AB25 - 05 May - Tile bathroom walls and floor
AB21 - 06 May - skim coat 2 ceilings ,plaster work to new opening formed
Achath - 01 May - Wall & floor tiling in Kitchen.
