Rob, in the american war movies they talk about 'clicks' e.g 10 clicks to the east or whatever. What is a click?

A klick is slang for 1 kilometre. I've just checked :smilewinkgrin: The british army uses them too. I'm sure I heard Ross Kemp talking about klicks in Ultimate Force

Yep...just looked it up too. Apparently coined by the Americans during the Vietnamese war. So it appears they have been using metric for some time now in the military.

Liz got it! The military uses metric for many things. All my basic map reading and land nav was meters and kilometers.

I need to ask a customer of mine who is a retired Air Force pilot, but I'm pretty sure for aviation they are still using tons or pounds (for quantity of fuel) and feet for altitude. Distances for them and the Navy is nautical miles.
