As many of you know, I'm in the market for a couple of used cars this year.

I've been scouring car websites on the net and actually came across a showroom about 25 miles away that had 3 cars I wanted to have a poke around in to see if they're what I actually want to buy.

Now I've spent the last couple of hours ringing this showroom as their website says Viewings By Appointment Only. And after trying every number on the website, I finally get through to somebody who then tells me he no longer works there :yikes: So why is his mobile number still on their website?

And they haven't bothered to update their website stock list and this guy tells me he thinks only 1 of the cars I'm interested in are still there, but to ring the owner and make an appointment. But this guy then lets slip that its friday afternoon and the owner would be playing golf so best to text him to get a reply.

Well, I have no tolerance for chasing around after people who clearly don't have high regard for my custom. They're either in the business of selling cars or they're not. They have stock I want to view, but I can't get hold of anybody to make an appointment. I'll go and buy from somewhere else then :incazzato:

Sounds like Arthur Daley Car Sales! - your best not getting involved with that lot.

Indeed they do John. Thankfully I've just found a showroom closer to home that has almost the exact same makes/models of cars I want to view currently in stock and they just so happened to answer my phone call within 1 ring :hurray: plus they have a few others I might be interested in.

And just now, I've rang a Volvo main dealer because they also have a car in that I'd like to have a poke around in, and the saleswoman (yes it was a woman!) asked me for my telephone number. When I asked her, she said it was for her records and just in case the car got sold. I'm going to view it tomorrow, it's hardly going to be sold in the next 3 hours and shipped off to its new owner. No thankyou, I'd rather not be added to your marketing list.

You'll probably find that most dealers don't have a lot of the cars they have on their web site as they have already sold them and leave them on to bulk it out...

I'm beginning to think that too Stewart. There also doesn't seem to be many cars in stock anywhere nowadays. I guess having huge car stocks isn't financially viable during the current economic climate

have some patience Liz and take your time, cars aint selling so theres some good deals to be had

A lot of them list cars they dont have as they have a database of cars that they can call on. They ge them from other dealers, thats why they always seem to have a large turnaround on cars. Good luck with it
