As to how soon to get back to work, what did you surgeon say? He will be the best one to talk to, as he saw the state of the rest of your knee.
I have had loads of knee ops, a bit like Doug as a teenager and one the year before last, but guys, do NOT rush into the new knee job idea, they are not ideal, you will never be allowed to sit on your heels ever again, as that acute angle is as yet impossible with knee replacements. Personally I want to wait until knee joint resurfacing is possible, it will surely come, like it is possible with hips already ... I have had not one single patient in my practice who was happy with their new knee, just kind of resigned that this is how it will have to be from now on, mediocre at best. Also the younger you are, the looser the joint becomes with age, please do not rush into this, it is not the answer unless you are in agony and really unable to work or walk. Those surgeons who said no to you know why and are doing you a favour, any surgeon who says no to a replacement is worth listening to.
