what is landscape,!!!! do you mean brick bond,

Well I was going to say horizontally but I figured that would be wrong. I'm a secretary. I deal in paper - portrait and landscape

I'm guessing the brick bond (or half brick bond) is where the grout lines go between the middle of the tile above or below?

That will be too difficult for me I reckon. Can I lay them sideways and have all the grout lines meet up?

I don't know if you've seen my other thread on lining up the grout lines with those coming from the sink?

PS: A recently unemployed secretary which is why I can't afford a tiler!

Not abrasive at all. I'm made of harder stuff.

It's not really a case of what I like, it's more what I can get away with with that stupid sink confusing me!

If's it's considered fine to lay the rectangular tiles horizontally with matching grout lines, then I think that's the best course of action. Ideally, I'd have gone for 33x25 tiles but finding smaller ones to match the horizontal surface is difficult and I know there's potential for a lot of wastage which is why I went for a smaller format tile.

It would all be so much easier if that sink wasn't there. Maybe I could smash it to pieces?

Annoying sink :mad2:

im with Doug on this one, just watch your cuts at the top and bottom of walls before tiling, but you can put tiles on the wall anyway you like as they are your tiles and there is no right or wrong. Its what looke aesthetically pleasing that counts minnie.

Well whatever happens, they have to be better than what was up there - unless of course, they all fall off. Even if they all fall off, the walls are better than they were before.

I do have one slight concern. A friend of mine who is a decorator (and an excellent one at that), told me I didn't need to buy primer and that I could just use a mist coat of emulsion and water on the walls. I've since read that you shouldn't tile on emulsion.

Have read that you can put tape up and leave overnight and if paint comes off with it, it's a sure bet your tiles will. Should I be very worried?

Minnie, you want to try sanding the emulsion off, if it comes off with tape your tiles will come off

bah, I thought I'd finished with all the nasty dusty work :mad2::smilewinkgrin:

He told me to sand off the stuff where I'd accidentally painted the wall below the tile line with normal non-watered down emulsion but I was hoping the mist coat wouldn't need it.
