lol, we have to make sure that it never does, ever!Well he has done plenty of tiling and nothing's fallen off the wall yet that I know off, but I will give the walls a sanding just in case.

what a transformation since taking those old tiles off. You're nearly there :20: Just sand back that mist coat, prime the walls and then away you go with the tiling :hurray:
I'd definitely get rid of the mist coat if you can. Have you done a tape test on it? I know your decorator friend said a mist coat would work fine instead of primer, but acrylic primers are designed to take tile adhesive over them. Watered down emulsion paint isn't designed to have anything other than more emulsion put on over the top.
You want to give the adhesive the best possible chance to adhere to the walls and if there is a coat of watered down emulsion in the way, you're not going to be giving it the best chance. As soon as you put adhesive on top of the emulsion, the water in the adhesive will soak the emulsion and then you'll have to wait for the emulsion and the adhesive to dry, hoping that no tiles fall off in the process.
Looking at the ledge above the sink, I'm wondering whether you'll be able to get away with building that up with tile adhesive as you go. What do the pro's think? Would tile adhesive be ok to fill in the small areas to make them straight and square again?
GRR :20:
the pics won't download for me:mad2:
